Warning, the following story is true. I know this for a fact, as the person it happened to was me. <- This note did not come with this story, this is an actual true story, from me, the author of this book.
Growing up, I had always has unusual experiences with things that other people couldn't see, it was just a fact of life for me really. Actually, I honestly didn't pay it any attention because I was so used to it...
I always had a fear of the dark as a child, I never knew why... Perhaps because of the spirits. Guess what though? I still have it, and I have quite the valid reason why.
One night, just like all the others, I lay sleeping at my old foster mothers house. I was nine at this point, and the lady I lived with, Miss Katy, was super religious.
I had no dreams that night, everything was peaceful in my mind.
Yet, I awoke.
I lay there quite still for a few moments, my eyes still closed. I felt calm, and I was very comfortable under my blankets. I didn't really want to move but I was wondering what had woken me up.
I blinked my bleary eyes a few times, staring at the white ceiling above my head. I had been doing this for almost thirty seconds whenever I noticed a dark figure standing, literally, right by the end of my bed out of the corner of my eye.
Oddly, I still felt no panic. I raised myself up onto my hands, so that I was slightly closer to the figure and studied it. I could immediately tell it wasn't a robber or something, heck, I could tell it wasn't human. It had no features at all. It was simply a shadow...
A solid shadow though. My room was lit only by a very dim light. I was trying to get over my fear of the dark you see. It barely lit up the corner right next to me. Yet, despite my room being completely black... This shadow figure was standing out against the black.
Like it was somehow darker then black, like it was a black light. Not the purple light, but literally like it was shining darkness.
It seemed to me as if it was staring at me, I simply did the same thing back. I was still completely calm.
As I continued to watch this thing, I noticed more about it. It seemed like it was wearing a cloak. The shape of it's head appeared hooded and I could see where it looked like cloth fell loosely from its body.
That shadow and I stared at each other, not moving at all, for maybe three minutes. I can't explain why, but, I remained calm and almost... Safe feeling the whole time.
Then finally, The Shadow moved. I still, to this day, worry about its action though.
As a child my mother had given me this Scooby-Doo stuffed animal, and a cross necklace. I had decided to put the cross necklace on the Scooby-Doo and sleep with it for protection. Somehow the Scooby-Doo had gotten at the foot of my bed...
I suppose The shadow disliked the cross hanging around it's neck because, The shadow raised its arm and slapped the Scooby-Doo across the room.
It wasn't normal. I mean, if a normal person would have hit the stuffed animal, it would have gone maybe half as far as it did.
This Scooby-Doo flew all the way across my room, hit the wall, and slid straight down it.
It didn't bounce off the wall like it normally would, no.
It slid, straight down it, and landed on the floor, all the way across my room still.
When I looked back to The Shadow, he was looking at me again. I still felt no alarm. We looked at each other for maybe ten seconds, before The Shadow turned and...
I can't say walked. It more so floated towards my door. Right before it exited my door though, it just vanished.
Guess what I did? I promptly shut my eyes and fell back to sleep in .3 seconds. Yeah, I don't know how I did it either.
The next morning when I woke up, my first thought was this.
'What a weird dream... I would never be that calm if something like that happened.'
Then, I looked across my room, and was petrified to see the Scooby-Doo sitting against the wall. Definitely not where I'd left him.
I just sat in bed, shocked, and scared out of my mind. I ran to my foster mom and told her, but she told me it was a dream. Then I told her the Scooby-Doo thing. She said it was a coincidence.
No one ever believes me, but this stuff happens to me quite often. I just, stopped telling people.
That was my first shadow person experience though. I know it's not horrifying, but... Just imagine it really happening to you. That's what's scary about it.
