Fear, Confusion, and Panic. These were the three emotions that ruled over my life when the Antivirus hit. It killed millions in the first day, in a week over half the population was wiped out. Worst part is that they infected don't stay dead once they drop to the ground. Nobody was prepared for it. People say it had been dormant for years, creeping around in the blood stream transmitted only by fluids (thankfully). I lived in the suburbs close to Denver. I lived a happy and quiet life, laid low at school and as a result of that I didn't have very many friends. The friends that I did hang out with were all people I had met online through gaming, few of them had a short fuse and were fun as hell to watch explode, but they were good people.
When Tony, didn't show up online one day the squad figured he had been dragged out on a family excursion, nothing strange there. Two days went by and we started to get worried, he never was offline for more than a day without a message. The next person to not log on was Ben and by then news of a deadly outbreak in Europe had started to appear on the news, so needless to say, we were worried for our two friends. I sent Will a link to aa news site that was covering this outbreak. "Do you think Tim and Ben are ok? We haven't seen them online for a few days and then this virus thing pops up out of nowhere?" "Dude, I'm sure they are fine right now, Ben lives in Germany and Tim... I don't actually know where Tim is but I am sure he's cool too." I had my doubts but didn't want to get into an augment about it. I refreshed the three news tabs I had open on my computer. "What the fu...' I trailed off.
There was a video of some teens messing around with a dead body left out on the street and as they were prodding it with a stick the head twitched and eyes snapped open revealing glowing bloodshot eyes staring at the teen with the stick. There was silence for all but a moment as the shock of what had happened sunk in, followed by the dead man wriggling on the ground attempting to bite the prodder. After had gotten to his feet the teens ran scattered screaming. The last thing the clip recorded was blurred running and someone screaming out in pain. "Whats up?" will asked out of curiosity. I was still trying to process what I had just seen. Bodies weren't suppose to move, not after their heart stopped beating. The video had to be fake, but the sudden reaction of the dead person, the surprised yelps, and the scream in pain. It was unnerving to say the least. "Dude what is going on? You ok?" Will's voice brought me back to reality.
"Uhhh, I think I should just send you this." I clicked on the next news tab. It had a headline reading VIRUS SPOTTED IN NEW YORK CITY, CITY PLANS TO IMPLEMENT QUARANTINE "Great this day is just getting better and better, and after a moment of accepting that this is indeed the reality we are living I spoke up again 'Will, pack anything we can use for camping I'm heading over and we are going to go for a trip in the woods"
