Chapter 4
Sophie

"Lizzie!" I throw my arms around my best friend as our parents roll their eyes at the childish behavior. We are at Hollingsworth on the Thames, so yeah, we went to London for brunch, as the Terringtons are at their London house.

I haven't seen Liz in a little over a week, so I'm definitely missing her. Normally, I see her or FaceTime her every day, so when we don't see each other for a week, I start missing the petite blonde. We sit down for brunch, and I make sure I'm next to Liz. I turn to her and tell her about the journal.
She replies,"Foul play, definitely." Liz always seems to look for the darkest side in things, as she's an avid reader, so she has a huge imagination.
"Liz, I don't want to jump to conclusions so soon, but I feel the same way." I continue, "But the only person who I told was Lynn, and I really don't think she would steal from us."
"Bu-" Liz starts, but I have more to say.
"Lynn is extremely loyal, and I think I just have to look some more, and find where it is. I know I can find it, but I don't know where to look first. I might start by looking downstairs, even though I doubt it will be down there. Then, I'll look in the small library," I say. "Maybe you can come back to Berlan with us, so you can help and stay after we look."
"That would be lovely, Sophie. I can ask Mummy and Dad after breakfa- brunch."
"Okay." I reply as a plate of French toast is placed down in front of me. I thank the waitress and then begin cutting my toast. Liz is having the same thing.
"Mum, can Liz come home with us?"
"Thats okay with me. Sarah, is that okay with you?" Mum asks.
"Well, seeing as the girls haven't seen each other in a while, I would say it's fine," Liz's mother consents.

On the way back to Berlan Castle Liz and I gossip about this and that, and I tell her about the journal, and how it may be of huge significance. She asks me why, and I tell her that mum was crying. When I say that, her eyes double in size and her eyebrows fly up her forehead.
"Wait, did I hear that right? Your mum, the stoic Duchess of Lighton, was crying? This is unheard of, Soph."
"Yeah, when Granny died, her mum, she didn't even cry. So what is it that makes this little, leather-bound book so special?"
