Chapter 8

Sophie

Little did I know that the gossip Liz and I had shared last night may be our last. Little did I know that when one goes missing, it's not exiting like in books. And when you lose your friend, it's hard to tell her parents.

"Liz, are you awake yet?" I mutter, rolling over to look at my queen bed I had graciously given up for Liz to sleep in. She's not in the bed, so she must be in the bathroom, I think. I get up, stretching and rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I knock on the adjoining bathroom door, and ask, "Lizzie, are you in their?", half knowing she'll say yes. But she doesn't, so I open the unlocked door. She isn't in their either. I walk over to my bed stand, I look at my phone, and the time reads 9:30. Mum and dad are probably at breakfast. I change out of my pajamas, and put on a light red long sleeve cotton dress and black flats. I walk down the hallway, my footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. That's weird, the maids should be changing the beds by now, it's Sunday. I shrug off the thought, and walk down the stairs. Going into the dining room, I hear my parents talking, but when I enter, mum looks and says,

"Good morning darling, good morning Li-" She trails off when she realizes Liz isn't with me.

"Liz isn't upstairs, so I thought she was with you, but obviously she isn't."

"No, she's not." Mum says. Dad finally says what everybody is thinking; "Liz is missing."

"Good morning, Sarah." Mum says, as Sarah gets out of her car, her driver turning the car around. Mum continues, "I don't really know how to say this, but when Sophie woke up this morning, Liz wasn't their, so she thought she had come down to breakfast with Tom and me. Well, she hadn't. And now, your daughter is missing."

Sarah's face turns a deathly white, and she clutches mum's arm for support. We lead her into the library, and she sits down.

"You mean to tell me my daughter has been kidnapped?"
