I pull out my phone, propping it up on the desk, and click on the picture of Connor in my phone gallery. It enlarges. I pick up my pencil; sketching out his face on the pale blue paper.
I finished Lucy's portrait at the weekend. It went well and I'm happy with it. I might tweak a few things with its background though. I'm planning on painting each portrait with their favourite colour as the background but I might add something else as well.
Lucy and I pack up and hop off to the canteen. I sketched out all of Connor's face during the double lesson, adding a small amount of paint to the draft as well. We arrive at the table and sit on the vacant side; Brad and Tristan not in view.
Their absence only lasts a few minutes. Tristan's joyous laugh echoes from behind us. I turn to find him snickering at Brad, his face pink from embarrassment. Tristan moves around the table to sit opposite Lucy and Brad shuffles in next to me.
"What's so funny?" Lucy asks.
Tristan continues to laugh. He manages to squeak a reply, "Brad was singing High School Musical on the way here."
I turn to Brad to see his hands hiding his face: ears burning scarlet.
"What?" Lucy presses.
"He was singing that one. That one at the end. The one that goes 'we're all in this together' as he walking out of photography." Tristan pauses, breaking into a bigger fit of giggles. "He was dancing too."
I keep watching Brad as his skin becomes more fiery with every word.
"I love High School Musical," I speak up.
Brad peeks his eyes between the gaps of his fingers and looks at me.
"I practically know it word for word," I continue.
"But isn't it like, a kids film that got turned into a meme?" Tristan challenges, eyebrow quirked.
"No... I mean yeah, kinda, it is a Disney Channel film but it's cool; catchy." I look to Brad, his hands now no longer hiding his face. "You know I have the whole trilogy at home," I pause and look around to the whole group. " You could all come round and watch it sometime."
Everybody nods, each enjoying the idea.
"What about you Tris?" I prod.
"I mean I guess if everybody else wants to then I'll have to watch it..." Tristan trails.
Brad smiles at me; wide and toothy. I guess that'll have to happen soon.

Not much happens in French. James and I sit bored for the hour, not bothering with the foreign vocab task. Lucy catches me after and we both make our way to the gym.
I think about how this is the first time since the party that I've seen Sara. She has been avoiding me and the others since the event and Brad hasn't mentioned anything about her. After changing, Lucy and I enter the gym with the rest of our classmates.
We spot Tristan and Brad in the corner and weave our way over to them, catching the end of their conversation.
"Does Sara know? She'll be pissed if you're still with her and she finds out." Tristan whispers harsh enough for me to hear.
"Keep your voice down," Brad hisses. "She doesn't know about it and Sara and I are going through a rough patch at the minute." He says quieter than before.
I step closer forward and they spot me and Lucy and drawback, smiling at us.
What does Sara not know? And a rough patch, I thought she was gay, that'd surely cause a problem in a heterosexual relationship.
