"Hey, I saw that. Are you two okay?" The young man yelled in a deep voice, pulling his black blazer over his head shielding himself from the rain. He revealed damp dark blue polo loosely tucked into his slacks showing off his built body.
Ava stepped us closer to him to be heard. "Our car gave out on us. We can't call anyone either, no service."
"We've been stuck here out for a couple of hours." I said to him, pulling wet strands of hair back again as I tried memorizing where I recognized him from.
"Here let me check it out." He said while we walked over to the blue jeep. "My name is August by the way."
"Thank you so much for rescuing us, August." I thanked.
"Absolutely no problem." August said with a chuckle.
"My name is Jeslyn." I folded my arms rubbing warmth into them. "That's Ava."
"The car won't even start." Ava informed as August turned the key.
"Alright." August inspected. "Your car does have gas right...?"
I quickly looked at Ava, then scolded when I saw her face. "No way."
"I am so sorry, Jeslyn." Ava said ashamed.
"It's cool." August said with a chuckled. "I will give you guys a ride to a gas station."
Ava looked at me wondering if this was a a good idea, so I just shrugged in response. Ava understood that I was really cold. I couldn't feel my fingers, toes, or lips.
"Let's do it!" Ava exclaimed. "I got my purse."
"Sounds great." He shouts then flashes a bright and charming smile as he throws his blazer in the driver's seat. "Hop in."
I smiled along with Ava as we walked towards his car when Ava whispered, "Sit in the front so you're sitting right in front of the heater."
"Alright." I nodded.
"You must be cold, I'm sorry that idiot dumped water on you. That was bull." The man's dark blue eyes noticed my soaked romper as he opened the door for Ava and I.
"I'll be getting your seat wet!" I realized.
"Don't you worry about that! Just get in." August assured me.
"I know right! I will not forget that dudes truck, he's gonna get it from me." Ava yelled angrily from the backseat.
I giggled at Ava's anger then shivered at the chill. August chuckled before he flashed a quick smirk before shutting my door for me then jogged to the driver's seat. I noticed the scent of the car was new, which was comforting in some way. Once he sat down closed his door, he ran his fingers through his dark chocolate-colored hair pushing back the damp waves as he started the car.
August leaned over into my seat, I sat back unsure what he was doing. Then, I felt a quick blast of hot air as he sat back and drove.
"Oh, thank you." I smiled.
August looked in my direction and smiled, "No problem." He faced back the road.
I kept my eyes on him, he was freshly shaved, young, maybe in his early 20's. He had piercing blue eyes that went unnoticed and a strong jawline that could make any girl swoon. He ran his hand through his damp hair again. I looked away before I could get staring at his flawless features.
"Where were you two headed anyway." August asked then added in a laugh. "I don't mean to sound creepy or anything."
"You don't, I promise. We are going to the Fall Festival down the beach." I answered with a smile.
"Oh right! I forgot that's today." He commented.
"Are we almost there?" I wondered.
"We're around the corner already actually." He said in his deep voice, while he pulled into a parking lot.
"Oh that was fast." Ava pointed out. "I'll just run in, you two don't need to go in" She added when she opened her door.
"Are you sure?" August asked unbuckling.
"Yes." Ava responded then closed the car door.
August sat back and took out his phone. Ava and I were supposed to be at the festival. I breathed out in exhaustion of the unexpected turn of events. I felt August glancing at me after he tucked his phone away.
"Are you cold?" August asked me breaking the silence.
"No." I answered shaking my head. "It feels nice right now."
"Alright." He responded facing forward.
I glanced back him and wondered how odd it was for someone to wear an expensive suit and be so close to the beach. He obviously is doing something important.
"Where are you headed?" I questioned quietly.
He turned and faced me with a gentle smile then answered, "Home."
"Oh." I whispered.
"I came back from the hospital." He said as he faced back forward, the smile completely vanished.
I just nodded in response then faced forward looking at the gas station. I could see Ava at the cashier. The car was pretty much silent until Ava jumped back inside.
"Sorry I took so long, I've never had to buy this stuff." Ava announced.
"You're totally fine." August assured as he drove back on the road. "I'm not in a rush."
"Jeslyn, what time is it?" Ava asked.
I looked at the digital clock inside the car. "Ten thirty-seven."
"The festival ends at 11. We might miss Marshall and Aaron." Ava informed.
Before I could answer, I noticed August turned and glanced at me for half a second.
"Date?" August asked.
"Uh, not really." I answered honestly.
"We're here." August said.
"Great!" Ava shouted leaving quickly. "My car is gonna chug this as soon as possible."
I giggled at Ava's eagerness. But I actually really enjoyed August's company, it was unfortunate to never see him again.
"Thank you for the ride again." I thanked with a small smile before unbuckling.
He nodded and smiled, "I'm glad I did, otherwise I wouldn't have met you, right?"
I smiled and blushed a little at his flattering words. "Right." I nodded opening the car door.
"You have a goodnight, Jeslyn." He smirked after emphasizing my name.
I felt my chest and cheeks heat up when he used my name.
"You too August." I responded, emphasizing his name secretly hoping it would give the same effect. I closed the door with a smile left in my cheeks and walked over to Ava, "I know him, don't I?"
"I thought I recognized him too, but I wish I did know him. You saw him, he was stunningly handsome?" Ava responded, wiggling her eyebrows as the black Maserati sped off into the night.
I laughed. "I recognize him, I just don't know where from."
"Doesn't matter does it? Come on, let's go see Marshall and Aaron while there still some festival left." Ava shouts grabbing my arm.
