Chapter 1
I run through the forest as fast as I can, testing my strength. I jump over fallen trees and dodge hanging branches. This is just my morning warm up. I have to stay in shape for, what I like to call, my job. I get to hunt down the one thing that took everything from me, werewolves. I hunt other things but mostly them. They're evil, all of them, and I intended to hunt them down and kill them all. I'm not the only hunter out there, but I am the most well-known. They call me 'Little Red.' Because of the fairy tale that killed the wolf for eating her grandmother and because I have flaming red hair.
Werewolves think of me as a cold-blooded murder but that's far from the truth. They killed all of my family so I'm returning the favor. I am wanted by every werewolf, vampire, hybrid, and even demons. I have devoted myself to hunting and killing these creatures for the rest of my life. Like I said these monsters have taken everything from me, and I won't stop 'til I get my revenge.
When I'm done with my run in the woods, I head to my house that's on the edge of the forest. My next target live deeper in the woods and I can keep my eyes on them until I plan my attack. They call themselves 'Blood Moon Pack,' very powerful pack in Oregon. They are rumored to be involved in my mothers death, and if they were, I will kill them all.
I jump in the shower and wait for the sun to go down to start my hunt. After I'm out I look at the time and it illuminates 7:48. I'll leave at eight.
Once I'm dressed in black pants, black tank top, and black leather jacket, I go to my bed where all my weapons are laying out. As I strap on all my equipment I think about the past and my mother's death when I was eleven.
“Davina.” I hear my mom scream. “Run.” She commands. I was sitting in my room getting ready for school tomorrow, when the front door burst open and my moms screams could be heard around the neighborhood. I wanted to listen to my mom but I got this huge urge to help and I ran downstairs, like an idiot.
My brother and father were out camping, so it was just me and my mom in the house.
Once I'm in the living room I see a man on top of my mother, with his hand wrapped around her neck. He has black hair and red eyes with a scar on his left eyebrow. Before I can scream, someone covers my mouth and holds me in place as I struggle to get free. The red-eye man looks up at me and smirks.
“Well well well, what do we have here?” He snickers when he sees the fear in my eyes. My mom is coughing, trying to get air back in her lungs. “You must be Davina.” He grabs my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. He smirks and pulls something out from behind his back. Still looking into my eyes, he pulls the gun out and puts it in my shaky hand. “Now, I want you to point it at your mother and shoot her.” He demands.
My eyes widen and I shake my head. “No.” I snarl. I don't know when I found the confidence to refuse him but I couldn't stop now.
He looks shocked for a second then dumbfounded. “Huh, manipulation doesn't work on you. Interesting.”
Next thing I know he takes the gun and delivers one clean shot to my mom's head. I scream and kick as the guy behind me carries me out of the house and into a van where they knocked me out.
I come back to reality when my phone buzzes telling me it's eight. I put on my silver bullet belt and put my spare gun in my boot. I have two guns on my hips, another gun tuck in my pants in the back, a bow and arrows tied to my back. I walk out the door and begin my jog into the middle of the forest.
You see, werewolves don't just change on a full moon, in fact that's completely false. They change when they hit puberty and it is suppose to be pretty painful.
After their first change they can shift when ever they want. And it's usually at night, that's why I'm out here. I hunt these monsters down.
Once I'm in the depths of the forest I hear a howl ring through the woods. So I hide behind a tree waiting for the werewolf. Soon I hear twigs and leaves crunching telling me it's near.
I purposely break a twig so the werewolf will come looking for me and not the other way around. Just as expected, I hear the wolf moving towards the noise and I grab my gun from my back that has silver bullets in it. Once I think it's close enough, I come out from behind the tree and aim only to realize the wolf is gone. I look right and left still holding my gun. I hear a growl from behind me and immediately turn around aiming my gun. This brown wolf emerges from the shadows.
The werewolf doesn't move at all and that makes me suspicious. That's when I hear various growls behind me and I know I'm screwed. I don't make a move knowing if I do I will be torn to shreds. I quickly analyze the situation and realize that shooting one is better than none. Swiftly I shoot the werewolf in front of me, in the shoulder and it goes down with a yelp. I turn around as fast as I can and the other werewolves are already charging at me. As quickly as possible I shoot at the blonde one charging after me but I miss when he ducks down. The blonde keeps racing after me, snarling and growling, until he's about to jump on top of me and I shot him in the gut. I tuck my gun back on my hip and take out my bow and arrows, aligning them and pointing the arrow at the big brown wolf, that I think is the beta.
The growls and snarling get louder and the wolves step forward.
“Ah ah ah, not so fast. These arrows are dipped in Trillium. If you take one more step it goes straight through your beta's heart.” I threaten.
Trillium is poisonous to werewolves. It is a white flower that is extremely rare, probably because werewolves don't want there weaknesses exploited. Most people think wolfsbane is the poison, but that's just a pretty purple flower that does nothing.
They all stop and look at my arrow.
I smirk and slowly start to back up. I won't be able to kill them all and more werewolves are probably on there way. So next time I'll have to come with a plan. I'm still backing up 'til I feel sharp teeth pierce through my skin on my left shoulder, cutting to the bone, until the wolf literally throws me to the side. My body slams against the tree and I feel two ribs snap, which, of course, hurts like a bitch.
I roll onto my back, taking my two guns out and firing aimlessly at the wolves. I hear howls of pain and growls of fury but I keep shooting. And judging by the black dots forming in my vision I will pass out soon.
I realize my guns have run out if ammo and I toss them to the side I try to stand but the beta chomps into my left thigh. The pain has become unbearable but I don't scream or cry because I know that will give them satisfaction. I take my knife, that was strapped to my other thigh, and cut the beta's nose to get him to release me. He does with a yelp then starts coming at me again. I throw my knife and it lands with perfect accuracy in the chest. None of the wounds I have given these wolves will kill them, it takes a lot more to kill a werewolf, but doesn't mean it won't hurt. I use my right side to slid away from the pissed off dogs but I feel energy drain from me. I faintly hear bones snapping telling me the wolves are changing to their human form but my eyes are dropping and soon I'm out cold.
