5:00 AM
They'd tried for a while to awaken Adam, Ross, George, Elias and Philip by tapping on the glass of the car and even honking at them with Elias's civic. For the past hour, it had been a pattern of talking, sitting around, playing a game of continuing each other's lyrics and attempting to wake them up. But finally, they decided that the five deserved the rest as a reward for finding Elias.
"What's our reward then? We located him, after all." asked Tori as they leaned on Adam's car.
"We get to go to breakfast together." replied Matty, eyeing a bistro nearby, "So, what d'you say?"
"Yeah, fair enough."
"Great." smiled Matty, reaching for her hand to lead her to the bistro he'd been eyeing. She hadn't budged until he turned around, "You know that place doesn't open until 10 in the morning, right?" she said with amusement, "I think I've got a better place in mind." She took his hand anyway, leading him to the cafe where she and Elias would usually eat brunch before afternoon classes in the case one of them woke up late.
When they got there, a few students from Tori's university had already taken their places, coffees in hand and reviewers in the other. They were quickly accommodated by waiters who knew Tori because she was a regular; they'd placed their orders quickly, never seeming to get enough of spending time talking to each other.
Tori then mentally agreed with Philip that Matty was definitely worth the underwire and for a moment had forgot the exhaustion she felt as it had been melted away by the smiles Matty genuinly directed at her.
6:15 AM
"You think they're up?" asked Matty as they walked out the cafe hand in hand. "You know what it means if they're up, right?"
"Don't remind me." Tori scowled as she and Matty stood by a lamp post, a few feet away from the cars, "I didn't actually think you and I would get as far as going on a breakfast date all in one night, to be quite frank."
"But because we did, it's only right we take the next step." replied Matty, leaning in quite closly to Tori, whose back was leaning against the lamp post, "May we?"
Tori's face flushed slightly, "We may."
Closing the gap between them, Matty leaned in and pressed his lips on hers. Automatically, his hands found their familiar grasp on her waist but for the first time tonight, Tori had wrapped her arms around Matty's neck. He felt the heat rush to his face as the kiss lingered; it wasn't only because he'd blushed, but also because the sun was beginning to rise over London.
When they broke away from each other, Matty pecked her forehead and whispered, "I'm sorry it took this long. But I always thought that kissing under stars had always been a little overrated, turns out kissing during the sunrise has a much better feel to it."
They made their way towards where the cars were parked, with everyone inside Adam's car finally regaining consciousness. Matty looked down at Tori with a smirk, mouthing "finally" as George welcomed them with a wave of his hand.
"Where the hell have you two been?" said George, sitting at the hood of Adam's car.
"Were you worried?" teased Matty with a snicker, "We just went to breakfast while you guys got some beauty sleep."
"See? Told you they weren't looking for Elias anymore." laughed Philip, winking at Tori, "Now, as fun as a night this was, I'm afraid the sun's broken out which means we all ought to get to bed."
"God, I'm exhausted." yawned Elias, "Totally worth it though. See Tori, didn't I tell you we'd have fun tonight?"
Tori smiled, glancing at Matty who was immersed in a conversation with George, "I'm sorry I ever doubted you."
AFTERWARDS...
Driving back to the flat, Tori had decided to discard her ringing phone by giving it to Philip who rode shotgun. "You know, I think you ought to answer it." said Philip, "May I put it on speaker phone?"
Tori rolled her eyes, "Yeah, okay, fine."
Pressing a button or two, the caller's voice had been heard all over the car as Philip held the phone close to Tori.
"Tori Jones!"
Tori's face instantly perked up as she recognized whose voice it had been, "Matty? Is that you?"
"Yes it is!" smirked Matty on the other line, excitement and amusement in his voice, "And I reckon you've committed a crime against me."
"Really now?" laughed Tori, "What is it and have you gotten your revenge yet?"
"Yeah." He laughed, "You stole my heart tonight so I stole your phone number in return."
A series of different voices laughed on both lines of the phone conversation before Matty was able to continue.
"I was wondering if you remember what I said tonight about boys and coffee."
"Yeah, the one about life being too short for crappy coffee and boys who don't care?"
"Exactly." smiled Matty, "Now, I happen to know a place where the coffee isn't so bad and I'm hoping that after tonight I've proven a bit of how much I could possibly care about you. So, what d'you say to Thursday afternoon?"
"I thought asking a girl out for coffee was a guy euphemism for not wanting to do anything with that girl again?"
"That only works when the girl asks to be called. I called you in this situation, remember?" he laughed again, "I'd love to prove to you that just because tonight's little misadventure has ended, doesn't mean whatever it was we've felt in other's company has to end as well. That is my revenge and I suppose you haven't a choice but to comply because you've brought this upon yourself by stealing my heart."
Tori laughed again, "Alright, fine. Thursday afternoon."
Incoherent cheering then commences on the other line as the rest of the band proudly commends Matty for getting this far with a girl on his own after just one night.
"Listen, I'm about to go park the car. Can I call you back?"
"That's not a girl euphemism, is it?"
"No, I can promise you it's not." replied Tori with a snicker, taking the phone in her hand before reaching the building of their flat.
"Alright then" replied Matty, leaning comfortably in the backseat, "I'll be waiting by my phone."
