It was now the next day and Melo decided that I should come over to his house for dinner. Not only would the Ball family be there but so would Ejay now that he lived there. More opportunities to get himself a scholarship said Melo as I asked to the new addition. Since I was coming, Ejay thought he would bring his new girlfriend, Erika, to keep me company.
"Honey, it's seven o'clock! You don't wanna be late for the Ball house" screamed my mother, the sound of her voice bouncing off the walls.
"I'm coming! I'm coming!"
I walked down the stairs coming face to face with my beautiful mother. She had an annoyed expression until she saw my attire.
"You look beautiful, sweety. Get going, you know how Melo is."
I was literally being pushed out of the house and I wanted to know why. My mom is never pushy but today she definitely was.
"Bye to you too, Mom" I said to her, departing on my five minute journey.
I was kinda nervous. I had forgiven Melo but I didn't know if things were going to be awkward or as it's always been. I planned to act as normal as I could and it was in his hands whether we were going to be weird towards each other.
I softly knocked on the door only for it to be whipped open by the Laker Lightskin as I called him.
"What's up, Zo? I didn't know you were gonna be home" I questioned, walking inside the beautifully decorated home.
"Oh, nah I get a break before practices start up again."
"Oh ok..." but before I could finish I was cut off by my annoying ass bestfriend.
"Kyla, you're early..."
I turned around to see Melo with only a red towel around his waist, droplets of water on his chest and his hair weighed down but water.
"I thought you said, um, seven thirty."
"Nah, but it's all good. Wanna just chill in my room to waste some time?" he asked, shaking his hair back and forth as if he was a dog.
I nodded and followed him up the twisting stairs. Admiring the various family pictures that adorned the walls, I didn't notice Melo waiting for me in front of his bedroom door. I hurried and made it into the room as he went to the bathroom that was connected to his bedroom.
"How's your mom?" Melo asked putting product in his hair, shaking it from side to side.
"Fine I guess, what about your's?"
I mentally slapped myself after asking that question. His mom was in and out of the hospital due to a stroke and it hit him the hardest out of both his brothers.
"She's smiling more and more when we speak to her but other than that, not so good."
"Sorry for asking Melo, that's not my place."
"It's fine, Ky. You're my best friend, why wouldn't I tell you."
By now he made his way back out and sit beside me on the bed, his hand on my thigh.
"Kyla, can I tell you something?"
"You know you always can."
Even though we had our differences, Melo and I could never be at each other's necks for that long, something I appreciated.
"When you told me you liked me, I..."
"Can we not have this discussion please, it's in the past."
I knew where this was going and I would end it before it got to the point of awkwardness.
"But"
"No, don't Melo. I'm over it and I just wanna leave it alone."
"Well, ok" he responded, a small frown on his face.
"Cmon, let's go get some snacks, you gotta be hungry big fella."
------------The boys, me, and erika were watching random ass movie on HBO and after such a long day, I was getting tired.
"You don't have to stay up, you can sleepover if you want."
Melo was laying beside me on the couch and Erika and Ejay were the lounge chair, boo'd up of course.
Erika was a nice girl, she played volleyball, had two younger siblings, and offered Ejay a great support system which was something he would only benefit from. We were similar in many ways which is something that I loved.
"I'm fine Melo, I'm just resting my eyes" I said trying to reason with him.
"Whatever you say, goodnight."
I mumbled a goodnight in return and fell into a deep sleep.
------I slowly opened my eyes to see the number 3:37 shining brightly. I recognized the side table and the alarm and it seemed that I was in Melo's bed. He must've brought me up here after the movie.
"Where's Melo?" I quietly asked myself as I slowly looked around.
I felt beside me and my hand came intact with the lightskin build I was searching for.
The light from the moon streamed through the bedroom window and shone on his face. He looked peaceful, face at rest and slow breathing.
"Melo, I told you that I was going home, you should've woke me up" I whispered in his ear.
"Mm, Kyla go back to sleep" he insisted as he lazily kissed my cheek and wrapped his muscular arm around me, pulling me closer to his body.
"You're a dick, I hope you know that" I answered the sleepy boy, getting ready to go back to sleep in his arms.
"Mmhm..."
He wasn't listening to me and soon we both fell back asleep.
