Chapter 1

"So," My mother asked me again the next morning as I sat down at the glossed, oak wood dining room table. She sat down beside me and smiled at me. I internally growled deadly at her, and I carved long, deep scratches underneath the table with my claws. She continued to stare at me like she couldn't hear the table being destroyed.

"Will you stop asking me every morning if I found my mate, because it's been the same as it's been for the pass five years. No, I haven't. Happy now?"

"Samantha," She sighed and I got up and walked to the kitchen. "I just want you to be happy like your brothers."

"Mom, you know that chances of actually finding you mate is about slime to none. Greg, Jordan, and Mitch are just extremely lucky to find their girls, but it's not possible for me."

"Samantha, I think your mate is out there and you are looking hard enough." I shattered the green, porcelain mug in my hand; thank goodness I was over the sink. I whipped my head in my mother's direction. She leaned against the threshold frame and gave me sympathetic expression.

"It's not like he is a damn misplaced book or something mom, he could be half around the country, or even around the world. It's harder than you think, just because dad found you in middle school, doesn't me you automatically know how to track your mate okay? You're not even a werewolf for crying out loud!"

"Samantha," I washed my hand very quickly noticing the glass being pushed out of my hand by my body. The wound slowly started to looked better and the blood had stopped dripping into the sink. She came over with paper towels and I pushed it from my hand. I don't want help from her; she's always on me. "I'm just worried."

"I know, I know, that's what you always say."

"Because you're my only daughter and I will always worry about my children no matter what."

"That's fine, but you need to just not hassle me about this. Okay?"

"Okay honey," She kissed my temple and walked out of the room. "You better hurry, or you'll be late to school."

I nodded, and dumped the shreds into the trash and washed out the sink and my hands. The wounds closed and I grabbed my car keys. "Bye."

"Bye, have a nice day."

"Yup." I said nonchalantly and left through the large front door and to the garage next to the house. In my four car garage, my silver 2012 Honda Accord stood farthest to the left. I walked to my vehicle and threw my black North Face Sweeper backpack and slid into the driver's seat. I started the car and rolled down the driveway and onto the main road of my neighborhood. The manicured lawns and perfect doll houses always looked great, and you wouldn't even know our town was inhabited by werewolves.

MountainSide was an abandon town left by early Europeans settlers after a war with American natives. My ancestors told them to leave the lands and they didn't and started war with them. The used they environment around them, asking the moon, sun, and earth gods and goddesses for help. Famine and disease wiped out some of them, and then the earth god granted them ability to shift into animals. Wolves are native to the area. We won the war with blood shed and pain, but we won none the less. Generations and generations later, it became reservation for the natives and now it became the infamous mysterious MountainSide. No one can really account for what happen to most of the people, some think they vanished, but we know better.

After about ten minutes I arrive to school...late. I didn't care, I was a straight A student and I've been late maybe once before, and me being late again isn't going to kill anyone. I grabbed my backpack and got out walking to the large, brown and cream colored building. I walked out the white pavement, I noticed dozens of students lounging around and some even playing sports. It was a nice day after all, mid June actually and finals are the only things keeping students here, instead of being home or on vacation. It was so hot here, I dressed in rolled denim shorts, a white tube top bra, an orange crochet crop top, and some white flip flops. Our school doesn't have a dress code, but it has to cover private areas and everything else it fine. My long tan legs, flat stomach, and arms were exposed but it was like a hundred degrees outside!
