Please feel free to comment and have conversation. Even if you disagree with something I said. I honestly want to know how others feel about the world right now. Stay nice and respectful in the comments though please.
________________________________In todays society we have tied a blindfold on our own eyes about the injustice that surrounds us. It would seem that half of us want to be "woke" and the other half are okay being blinded by the invisible cloth on our eyes. Only recently does it seem that people have gotten more comfortable with expressing their bigoted opinions through the internet or to people's faces. As a privileged black female I can't say that I have experienced the injustice to the same extent of others, but I have witnessed it while listening to people talk about how gays shouldn't have the same rights and how we shouldn't trust whites because of what they've done in the past. Due to my bisexuality obviously hearing people talk about the rights I shouldn't have if I fell in love with a woman hurts. Also we can't not trust a whole race because there are certainly good people among that race. Perhaps I have not been hurt enough by the world to hate a group of people based on one characteristic alone, but I can't seem to understand how it can occur.
As a child I was oblivious to the stereotypes and the prejudices, as a child should be, but now that I am older I can't help but to get slapped in the face with them. Everywhere you look something has happened that can be considered an injustice; trans rights to fight for their country has been attacked, a black man drowned in a lake while teenagers watched him drown, and women in tech are seen as sexual objects instead of serious business women. While all of these issues, and many more, have caused a person or a whole group to fight back it doesn't seem to slow down the inevitable tsunami of racism, sexism, and homophobia that is looming over our "Free World".
Unification could ultimately be the issue. There are many minorities (I can truly only speak for African-Americans) who won't help their own people or who are sexist. There are many women who would turn their back to their own gender or who are homophobic. There are many LGBTQ who don't support people of the same sexuality as them or who are racist. Unification doesn't seem to exist anymore. People are willing to go only so far to support those around them. Whether it's a trust issue or a selfish issue, I'm not quite sure, but in order to fight injustice we have to be willing to fight it together. We can't go into war thinking "Well I wouldn't mind if so and so got hurt during this battle," as it will only lead to the deaths of the whole army.
I'm only 17 so I don't have much experience in the world yet, but from what I have seen so far I am scared. I am scared to open up to people because I know people will cut you down at your best moment. I am scared to reach for my dreams because I know as a woman there is always going to be an obstacle standing in my way. I am scared to date more than a couple people and experiment because then I'll be labeled as a "slut" or "whore". I am scared to vote when I turn 18 because there doesn't seem to be a politician who really cares about actually making America into "The Land of the Free". I am scared to become an adult in a world where unification has disappeared and injustice has taken its place. Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps I'm being a pessimist and can only see the negatives due to my own invisible blindfold. But this is how I'm feeling and I'm sure there are those who feel the same way.
