The Trouble They Bring

The three of us were brought to one of the houses, where all the people sleep. They all slept on the floor, yet they are fine and satisfied. We were given two blankets each.

"I'm sorry, but as you see, this is all we have for a bed." Ed apologized

"No, this is more than enough. After all you did, you shouldn't apologize. Thank you very much." Hazel said as she held Ed in his shoulder.

"Well, You're welcome." Ed said as he smiled.

Ed left to assist the other people. We looked for a place to put our sheets. We eventually found our places, but we were separated as only one can fit in each. As I lied down, I see Kurt with his eyes closed, facing up, tears slowly flowing from his eyes.

I turned around to my side and I see Hazel also on her side, staring blankly somewhere, she's obviously stressed out. I faced forward, pondering about the past, the present and the future. All the craziness that happened before, our current state and all the danger that the future will bring. After a few minutes the lights were turned off and I went to sleep.

Morning came and we woke up. We folded our sheets and placed them away. The three of us went  out and tried to help the people whenever we could. We helped them collect water from their wells, collect eggs from their chicken coops and other things.

Ed offered us food, but we insisted that they eat it instead since we androids don't really need to eat food. After eating, we played games with some children to cheers them up and we made hot chocolate for the adults to enlighten them during this cold weather.

It was quite a nice day, it didn't snow as much as yesterday, so a lot of the people stayed outside. But nothing good lasts long I suppose. During the afternoon, at about 2 PM, we heard someone scream from outside the forest, following those horrifying screams were gunshots.

Ed quickly alerted everyone to get indoors. The others went inside a different house, we followed Ed into an entirely different house. He went inside a room and went back out with an old revolver that only has five bullets, two axes and a knife.

"Please? I know it's too much to ask, but I need to help to protect these people." Ed said to us

I took the knife without hesitation. Ed is obviously relieved. He gave one of the axes to Hazel, the gun to Kurt, while he took the other axe for himself. He told Kurt to be careful in shooting for the gun only had a few bullets and to make sure to make them count.

The four of us went outside. Ed gave the other house some kitchen knives in case that we failed to protect them. Kurt knelt steadily in the background, ready to aim and shoot; while the three of us formed a line, to defend the people.

The things from the shadows of the trees start to move forward and come out of the darkness. And the perpetrators were the men who were following us yesterday. One of them threw the severed head of the man who guarded us. It was disturbing.

"What do you want?!" Edward asked the men

"Oh, just those three androids you have there or more like, the five hundred thousand dollar bounties that are placed upon their heads." The leader said with a grin

"No. These are good kids. You can't have them." Ed said bravely

"I guess I'll have to take them by..." Their leader said as he was interrupted as Kurt shot him

Too bad the bullet only scrapped his face, but the bullet did bounce off to one of his men, which led to a kill. The leader wiped the blood off his face before he cocked his gun. I ran towards the men, with my first strike impaling through one of the men's stomach.

I pulled it out as I move on to the other members of the gang. I took all of the fire, than letting Hazel and Ed get the hail of bullets. It was extremely painful. Bullet after bullet, stab after stab, but I had to swallow the pain because if I don't, they will have to suffer.

I was brought down to my knees. I couldn't bring myself to stand up, but I still kept fighting. My weakness brought Hazel and Ed to the attention of the crowd, so they went. We were overwhelmed.

After a few seconds, people came out of their hiding and helped us, many from the first wave died immediately due to the lack of weaponry or anything to defend themselves. But that gave us the distraction that we desperately needed.

"We need to call for help." I said to Ed

"Yeah, I heard them calling out other squads for back up." Hazel added

"But you guys would be caught by the police." Ed worriedly said

"That doesn't matter. These people's lives matter more than ours." I said to Ed

"Alright then." Ed said

Ed told Kurt to go in one of the houses to find a phone in one of his drawers and call for help. We continued to engage in battle with the gang. Suddenly, I felt like time stopped, I saw everything. I see Ed getting shot in the shoulder slowly, I see the bullets hitting the wood planks of one of the houses, and I see the children inside in a corner, crying.

I hear a boom, then suddenly from the heavens, came down an angel. Her wings covered the skies and blocked the sunlight from reaching our eyes, she then pulled out two guns from her back.

"Wait what?"

"Guns?"

"Yes. Guns."

This angel came down from the sky and shot down every single one of the intruders. She went down and retracted her wings to the back, revealing the Trenchant's insignia that is in her armor. I ran as fast as I could to Ed to see if he was okay.

"Are you alright?" I asked him worriedly

"Yep. I used to be a soldier and I went out of wars with far more worse injuries and experiences than this." He said with a big grin

Soldiers enter and scatter across the area. The others helped out the victims, while the others came in our way and pointed their guns at us, making us raise our hands. The woman came out from the back. She disabled her mask, revealing her face and hair.

"Finally." She said with a smile.
