Nic POV
A thunderstorm, also known as an electrical storm, lightning storm, or thundershower, is a storm characterized by the presence of lightning and its acoustic effect on the Earth's atmosphere, known as thunder.
They are usually accompanied by strong winds, heavy rain, and sometimes snow, sleet, hail, or, in contrast, no precipitation at all.
And it all starts with a single..

Drop.
First one, then three more.
The tiny droplets pebbled the window of my dorm and I got to up to close before the rain really set in. I heard the thunder crack a few minutes earlier but I thought it would go away.
I climbed back and in bed and scrolled through Netflix on my TV. Why am I in bed watching TV alone on Thanksgiving you ask? Most of my family were back home in Trinidad, and the family I had here, well, we weren't much of a family anyway. My father never had much time for me and my mother was always self-medicating because he never had much time for her either.
I found solace in my studies and with my friends. It was my junior year at NYU and I was studying Music and Mass Media. It was an amazing experience and thanks to my scholarship I knew I would be loan free when I graduated.
Thunder cracked again.
I hated thunderstorms. But my friend hated them even more. She was such a baby when it came to them. She would always climb in bed with me when one would spark. At any time of the night. I couldn't tell you how many times I woke up with Beyoncé all but on top of me.
Wait, I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Beyoncé and I have been friends since kindergarten. She was studying Humanities and TeleCom. Bey was a little weird growing up, but so was I so it worked. I would bring her things during snack time and see if she would eat them. Nothing worse than a peanut butter and honey sandwich or fresh celery but when you're five anything green is an abomination.
And you know something? She always did. A smile pulled at my lips at the thought. I chewed on the inside of my cheek and tried to redirect my thoughts back to the TV. I put on an episode of Narcos and tried to veg out. I was about 15 minutes into it when I heard a BOOM.
The thunder crack was so loud my window rattled. I sat up fearfully. Ten seconds afterward, the power went out. I heard the whir of the generators starting but they sputtered and eventually went out. The warm air from the air vent stopped and everything went completely silent.
