I looked in the mirror as I finished changing into my uniform that I had recieved from my new job. It wasn't too formal nor casual. When I reached the shop I was greeted by the nice older woman who hired me. She said that the bakery was getting more publicity, due to social media and that she needed a new set of hands. I went in the back to get an apron and once back the lady hands me a name badge.
"I'm glad that I hired you, looking so friendly, that is what I need for a rising business."
I sweat a bit, "I-I'm just glad to help."
She nods and we start baking breads and sweets before opening the doors. I was brewing tea when the 1st customer came in. He picked out what he wanted and left right after paying. The morning ran pretty steady but lunch hour got busy. There were so many different faces and the older lady said that they are all regulars and that she knew by name. 'There was no way that I could remember so many people.' She chuckled at my expression.
"It's alright sweetheart, I don't expect you to remember all of this in one day."
It was about closing time when a man walks in. He looks around and grabs a few things before coming up to pay. I give him his total and he paid cash. I look up and he is smiling.
"You new here?"
"Yes, it is my 1st day."
"Well, have a good rest of your evening."
"Y-You do the same sir."
His eyes were a teal that shimmered as he turned to leave. I closed the doors and turned the sign and I see him walk across the road. He turns and looks at me to then wave. I give a small wave back before putting my apron away. When I am in the back I look in the mirror and I am in shock. I had a smear of frosting on my cheek. My face went ablaze. 'That's why he was smiling?' I'm so embarassed. I got my things and went back to my apartment and soaked in a bath. Once in my rooom I kissed my cat Marco on his forhead and he followed me to "his"/my bed and went to bed. I awoke early and the day went the same as yesterday. We were about to close when the same guy from yesterday came in. He got his things and came up with the same items as yesterday. I gave him his total and once paid he gave a smile. I looked away and it turned into a frown,
"You okay?"
"I-I am sorry about yesterday."
"I'm not sure what you mean?"
"I-I had- my face was a mess, that's why you were smiling."
He took his change, "Your name is [L/N] right?"
I nod and he looked sad, "I'm sorry that I made you sad, that wasn't my intention. I admire a woman who is passionate abou her work. Life can be messy and you still looked happy, even though you were exhausted. That is what made me smile."
I blushed at his kind words, I smile and he does the same, "Now that's the smaile I was looking for."
As he opens the door to leave I shout, "Have a wonderful evening."
He looks back with a soft smile, "You do the same [L/N]."
After leaving the older woman nudged me,"He's cute."
I was still in a daze, "I know...uh I mean."
She chuckled and I add, "Do you know his name?"
"No, he pays in cash and these 2 days are actually the only times that I have seen him. We are both in the dark."
I nod before bidding farewell and left for the evening. I put on my gloves and look up as a snowflake hit my nose. I hurried to my apartment and was greeted by Marco meowing at the door. I let out a light cough after entering. I take a hot bath before bed, Marco jumping in bed with me soon after. I awoke without an alarm since it was my day off. I looked out the window to see snow on the ground and in the air. I sigh before getting ready for the day so I could head out to go shopping. I got food for the week and headed back home. I walked by the bakery and the man that I talked to yesterday was standing outside the doors. I was a bit comfused but walked over.
"H-Hello, can I help you with something?"
He turns his head quickly and looks at me in shock,"I-um, are you guys closed?"
"Yeah, today and tomorrow. Do you need something now because I can whip something up for ya real quick."
"No-No it's fine, no need to trouble yourself on your day off."
I smile, "Oh your fine, it will only take a little bit."
I unlock he doors and have himsit while I go to the kitchen to bake. Once finished I bring them fresh out of the oven and sit them at the table.
He smiles warmly, "You didn't have to do this, I really am greatful."
"No problem...uh."
"What is it?"
"Sorry, but I don't know your name."
"Oh, I am so sorry, My name is Yamazaki."
I blush at the sound of his name, it fits him. After he ate his baked goods I followed him out before loking the doors.
"Thank you [L/N], you really didn't have to-"
"Oh it's alright, I couldn't just leave you out here in the cold air."
He looks at my bags, "Do you need help getting that to your house?"
"I think I got it."
"I can carry a few things, it's the least I can do from bothering you on your day off."
"Um..sure...I guess."
He looked concerned, "If you have a boyfriend waiting for you at home then I don't wnat to cause you any trouble."
I smiled and tried not to laugh but failed, letting out a chuckle, "No, it's nothing like that, I just don't want you going out of your way on my account."
He takes most of my bags, "I'm happy to help."
We talked on the way and were about to go around the last corner to my house when he suddenly slipped and fell face first into the snowy ground. I sat down my bags and lifted him up slightly to see his face.
Worried I ask, "Are you alright?! Are you hurting anywhere?"
He looked up at me with red cheeks, most likely due to the snow. He smiled and chuckled.
"Yeah, sorry about the bags."
"That's that last thing I'm worried about Yamazaki!"
He sat up and began to laughed, after a few seconds I began to chuckle with him with a light shade of pink dusting my cheeks. When I opened my eyes again I noticed that he wasstaring at me with his mouth slightly opened, eyes wide, and his cheeks slightly darker.
"Um...Yamazaki-kun?"
His nose suddenly started to bleed."Y-Your nose!" I take my glove and cover his nose, taking off the glove in the process. I help him up and grab my bags.
"My house is right down the street."
I unlock the door and rush in and sit the groceries down and he sat in the kitchen. I then escorted him to the bathroom and got the first aid, cleaning up the mess. I let him finish and put away my groceries. Once finished I went to the living room and he was on the floor playing with Marco. He looks at his tag and then to me with a smile.
"Marco huh? That's a nice name, and very playful."
"S-So how is your nose?"
He sighs, "Yeah, sorry about that, I'm alright."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I feel bad that you had to carry your bags in while I go and ruin your gloves, I will buy you a new pair, I promise."
I pick up Marco who touches my nose with his,"You don't need to do all that Yamazaki-kun."
"It's the least I can do. I should also get going."
"Alright, I need to get dinner started as well. Have a good rest of your evening "
"Yeah, have a good rest pf your day off."
"Yep, I will."
I walked in out and got in a cab before leaving. He seems really nice.
"What do you think Marco?"
I asked as he stretched his paws up to my knees to reach for the spoon to get a taste test of dinner. My next day off I lazed in my home, watching TV with Marco. Around 5 PM there was a knock at my door. I looked outside and there was noone. I looked down and there was a box with a note that said 'Sorry'. I opened the box and it was a new pair of gloves. I smile before closing the door. The gloves were soft and warmed my hands very well, plus they were [F/C]. I put them up and ate dinner and relaxed a bit longer before taking a bath and brushing my teeth before bed. I awoke early to shower before heading to work.
