to hope

'You don't even have to think about it.' It was clearly addressed at her since no one else was near but Amanda hat to turn around to confirm her assumption. She instantly recognized the voice but it took her a glance on the face of the person talking to her. It turned out that it was indeed Harry Osborn who was standing no too far away from the bench, hands in the pockets of his pants. His attitude had changed from earlier, he now seemed to be more relaxed and less intimidation, to Amanda's luck.

At first, she couldn't get any words out; it felt like she was stunned. That was until he sat down beside her – not too far away, their arms were barely touching – with a small smirk gracing his lips that she could finally form a simple 'why'. Because it sounded a little too pathetic she coughed and repeated her question.

You see, Amanda hadn't seen this man up close before, yet she already found him rather attractive but being this close to him, she herself wondered why she hadn't fainted yet. Describing him as attractive would be an understatement, his face was perfectly shaped, his lips formed a beautiful smile, though sunglasses were blocking his eyes from her sight. She had to keep herself from staring or else he would most likely be gone as quickly as he came.

'I'm pretty sure I slipped one of the flyers into your arms, so why did you leave so early?' Harry asked curiously while enjoying the sun warming his face. He really had remembered her, she couldn't believe it.

'Well, this might sound crazy but I had to leave because someone took it from me.' Amanda confessed and looked at the half eaten croissant in her hand which suddenly felt really greasy. She could hear him chuckling.

'And I thought you weren't interested in my offer.' Harry removed his hands from the pockets and instead folded them over his lap. A blush crept up Amanda's cheek. He was kidding right? No one in their right mind would decline an offer like that.

'I actually thought of explaining my situation to you but I got kicked out of the hall before I could...' Harry nodded for her to continue. 'But of course I'd love to work at your company!' The man's smirk turned into a smile and he reached over to Amanda's other side where her documents lay. 'May I?' He asked, already grasping the paper, looking at her over his sunglasses with a raised brow.

Amanda nodded. 'Sure.' She felt content to have someone like him interested in having her as an employee at his really successful company but still, she was wondering why he exactly chose her. It seemed like he hadn't found anyone too interesting yet because otherwise he would probably not go to such lengths just to talk to her.

After Harry had taken a good look at her qualifications and cv, he started laughing. It probably shouldn't have sounded evil or mocking but to her it felt like that. 'What's so funny?' She then asked, head hanging low, all her motivation and hope slowly fading away into nothingness. She felt like her qualifications were good enough yet he seemed to have expected more.

'I'd really like to know why you don't have a job yet... Your qualifications are impressive, you've been working really hard.' His words hit her like a train, he, the owner of a million dollar worthy business, was telling her that he was impressed by her efforts... She couldn't believe her ears, which Harry noticed quickly. 'I'm being serious! You don't have to go to any other job interviews, I think I got you covered.' He gave Amanda her documents back and lowered his glasses a little so that she could get a look at the wink he was shooting her and before disappearing, he grabbed one of the many cards Amanda had prepared with her phone number and address on them.

She sat like this for a little while; one hand covering her documents, the other one still holding onto the now inedible croissant. Did this just really happen or was she asleep and had only dreamt of this encounter? After making sure she was in fact awake by pinching her arm a little too harshly, she got rid of the food and started walking towards the loft she was renting.
