(This first chapter is mostly world building, as i get further into the story there will be more and more character development, this is really just a way for me to test how my writing skills have progressed. The image was made by nabanna.tumblr.com and was a commission that i requested.)

Mt. Ebott, a place known to many in our town as the place of no return. It was well known that any who climbed the mountain would never return. No one knew why, this knowledge had been long since lost in history. Speaking of history, that was the class I was in when we all felt it, like a shift had happened in the presence around the mountain. Only a few of us felt it strongly enough to look over in the direction of the mountain but I was standing up from my seat as I looked at the very peak of the mountain. I could feel such a strong draw, as if there was something there that was calling me.

"Everyone get back to your seats! Class is not over yet, i don't know what that was but we are going to continue as normal, that means you too Evie."

I was immediately snapped out of my trance when the teacher started to snap at us to pay attention and sit down. I hurried back to my desk in the back by the windows before I became the center of attention, though while I tried to pay attention to the class, I couldn't help but turn back to the mountain, still viewable from my desk...not that it mattered much, I had an A in this class. The same could not be said for my other classes though, while i excelled in things like art and history, i lacked in places such as math and science.

My school wasn't a bad place to be, the children were rather decent. That is, if you stayed in your place on the sidelines as i did. Everyone usually forgot about me and i had this strange way of fading into the background before i could draw any attention to myself. I couldn't really say i had any real friends, there were the people i saw every day who knew me and sometimes would sit with me at lunch but i thought of them more so as acquaintances than friends. i was really very glad that no one ever noticed me though, you see i had a genetic disorder, one emerald green eye and one ocean blue eye. It made me stand out so much in elementary school, but now that i was in middle school everything seemed rather different, then again, it had only been a week since i started, and no one here really knew me.

It wasn't until later when I discovered through the news that my father was watching, that there was a plethora of monsters pouring out of the mountain; they had already started development of houses and a society. Apparently they even had a king, they would show pictures of some, pretty scary looking, monsters but the camera changed view to a small child that couldn't be much older than I was. The reporter, who wasn't shown on camera at the time, would ask them if these monsters are dangerous to which the child would raise their hands and sign their answer, there was a translation at the bottom of the screen of the TV and it scrolled pretty fast, i had troubles keeping up.

'While my friends here may look a little rough around the edges, I can promise you that they have learned that violence is not the answer. We will be having a party at the end of the week to help introduce the monsters and humans and make sure that humans can learn what monster culture is like and so that monsters can be reintroduced to society.'

I was impressed that they knew so many big words, we were around the same age but I couldn't understand some of what they were saying. Just then my mom came rushing in the front door, she was holding a box of things like blankets and clothes.

"Mama? Whats wrong?"

She seemed startled for a moment, as if she forgot that there were other people living with her. She breathed out a sigh of relief and scooped me up with a huge grin.
