"We made it Kat! We are officially graduated from college!" Nikki cheered as she poured me another glass of wine.
"Okay okay not too much, I still have to stop by my parents house tonight!" I said as I covered the top of my glass with my hand.
Nikki just laughed and put a loose blonde strand of hair back behind her ear, it ended up falling right back to the same spot since her hair was too short to begin with.
"Are you going over to Cameron's house after?" She asked as she looked up at me with her dark blue eyes.
"Probably not, you know how my parents are! Once they get me home and alone there is no chance of escaping." I said laughing, Nikki gave me a little laugh as she started swirling her glass of wine.
I didn't know what had dropped her mood all of a sudden but I was keen on changing it. So I nugged her arm with my elbow and said, "Hey, do you remember how we first met?"
She looked up at me and started to smile again. "Of course! You were a nobody before me." She said laughing.
"I was not! I...I was just focused mainly on my studies than I was with making friends."
She smirked and I continued with, "Hey not everyone can be as rich as your family is. I had to work my ass off to get into college and I couldn't afford getting anything other than an A to do that."
She pulled me into a hug and said, "I know, but you were missing out on life too. Maybe that's why we became friends, you needed some excitement and I needed someone who could ground me a bit more and also who I could depend on." She smiled at me then let me go and grabbed her wine off the counter. She stared at it before she shrugged and drank the rest of her cup.
We have been best friends ever since the first day of high school, when the teacher assigned us to be partners on a project.
I was always the girl who looked forward to school, I got straight A's and never missed a class. It was a guarantee that if I worked hard enough, this school would help get me into any college I wanted.
I was the only person in our private school that didn't have buckets of money flying out of my ass.
My parents spent their entire savings on my sister Kali and I so we could get the best education possible...thats why my grades are so important, I can't let my parents down after everything they have done for me and after everything we have suffered through. I had to work even harder than everyone else because I needed a full ride to college, I needed a scholarship.
Nikki on the other hand hated school and didn't care about her grades. Unlike me, Nikki was blessed with alot of money. It always surprised me on how she could get away with the grades she had since her dad was always being followed by the press for his company. He always acted as the perfect dad so I always assumed Nikki had to play the role of the perfect daughter whether it be at home or at school but I guess it didn't matter or he just never noticed.
I broke our silence again as I started to chuckle and said, "I remember when I heard Mr. Jin tell us we were going to be partners. I remember wishing I got someone else, anyone other than you Nikki." We both leaned together and started laughing a little more.
The truth was, I needed someone who would help me get an A, not drag me down and at that time that's all I thought Nikki was going to do.
I still remember Nikki walking over to my table after everyone dispersed into their groups. She was wearing a skimpy little skirt and her school T-shirt tucked in. I could remember shaking my head thinking, there is no way someone like her could get me anything other than a C unless I took the assignment over myself which wouldn't be possible.
