He was blinded by the light.

He was deafened by the sounds.

He was immobilized by the feeling.

But he was stronger, stronger than he had ever been.

And he loved it.

His eyes slowly adjusted to the light, letting him see his new surroundings. He looked around, and saw empty space stretching endlessly in all directions. The light came from above, illuminating a large door standing ajar just a few yards in front of him.

Well, there's nothing else to do, he thought. Striding forward, he once again felt this new power surge through his being. He halted just outside the door, and stomping down the urge to fling the obstacle aside, cautiously opened it.

There was a long brick passageway. He began to travel down it. The light slowly faded, and he welcomed the darkness.

I should call myself something, he pondered as he continued to walk. Something that matches this power I feel.

For the first time he could remember, he was stumped for an answer. He walked on, the darkness becoming thicker and thicker.

Darkness...

Dark...

Of course!

I am Dark!

No sooner had the thought sprung into his mind, then the passageway evaporated. Dark fell through the open void, plummeting to who knows where. But he did not feel fear. Not when he landed on a soft surface, not even when he saw yet another strange landscape, filled with rough sand, coarse grass, and rising hills.

Only when he saw the man staring at him did he become afraid.
