thorough consideration
Without giving it much thought, she entered the huge doors that guided her into the tall building which was OSCORP.
The hall was stuffed. There were so many people, all seemingly knowing what their duty was, rushing from one corner to the other. Amanda could also spot small groups of people being guided through the building. There were several glass elevators making their way up and down and up again. She felt it hard to imagine herself working here, in such a gigantic company.
Luckily, the reception was rather empty. 'Hello, my name is Amanda Kristal. I have a meeting with Mr. Osborne.' She introduced herself to the friendly looking woman standing behind the counter. 'Ah yes, let me see.' She focused her attention on the screen of her odd looking computer and within seconds could tell Amanda where she had to go. 'Should I organize someone to guide you there? I know the building looks intimidating the first time you enter it.' The woman suggested but Amanda declined kindly. 'I think I'll find it myself. Thank you.'
The way the woman had described the route to Amanda's destination sounded pretty easy. Just take the middle elevator all the way to the highest floor, then turn left, walk to the end of the aisle and then the door on the right is where she has to be. Sounds easy, right?
It turned out that the description was only easy in theory, seeing how much Amanda struggled to even get to the elevators. And once she finally arrived there, she had to wait for quite some time because of the amount of people that had to go up with exactly this elevator.
As soon as she was in there however, she felt relieved. It could only get better now. As the elevator was making its way up all those floors, she turned around to admire the glory of this big company that was showcased in all its beauty to her through the really clean glass walls surrounding her. The floors all seemed transparent seeing how she could see through all of them all the way to the grey walls of the adjacent business buildings. How might those workers feel, being exposed like that? On the other hand, there are so many desktops in sight, how valuable is one really, working here? Well, it should depend on the job, shouldn't it? Amanda should surely mean a lot to OSCORP, being, hopefully being, the boss' new personal assistant. However, thinking about this gave Amanda a headache. The pressure that would lay on her, would she be able to handle it all? The company was doing really well at the moment, so the boss would surely be really busy. Her previous work experiences were all at smaller companies where she had little to do but still learned a lot about the job. Would that knowledge suffice?
The elevator slowly came to a halt. Amanda gathered all her courage and told herself that she would not screw this up and that she would further help this company to gain success. And with that she carefully stepped out of the small room.
The hall she was greeted by was simply a dark shade of grey. There were no decorations whatsoever, just a lot of doors side by side going from one end to the other. Amanda surely imagined this to look differently. The thing that was bothering her the most was that the walls here were not made out of glass but firm and opaque. It seemed suspicious but maybe the laboratories were here and none of the experiments should get leaked. This theory made a lot sense to her but Amanda figured that she should better get going before she let Harry wait any longer. She could ponder about this another time.
What did the clerk tell her? Turn left, then all the way to the end. Should be easy. However, the hallway was really long and Amanda soon found herself standing at a bend. The aisle was continuing to the left of her but Amanda didn't know if she should still follow it or if the door to Harry's office was right there, to her right. She decided to further investigate the door near her, there should be a plate or something like that telling her what lays behind this door, right?
Wrong. There was nothing, and additionally, the door didn't look any different from all the other doors on this floor that she had seen so far. So Amanda decided to continue her way.
This time, the aisle really came to an end and Amanda knew that she was right where she should be at. The door to her right was double the size of the many others she had passed on her way here. The handles were golden and the door was made out of glass but you could barely make out anything that was happening behind it.
Amanda cleared her throat before pushing one of the doors open. The room she was standing in now was huge. The first thing she could see was the blue sky which extended up from behind Harry's desk.
'Well, hello to you too.' His voice brought her back to reality and she quickly averted her eyes and instead focused them on the man sitting in his big chair with a small smirk on his face.
'Oh, I'm really sorry.' Only now, she realized that she had not knocked or anything like that before entering his office. Her cheeks started blushing and she suddenly felt very embarrassed about her behavior.
'I'm really so-' she tried to explain and excuse herself but Harry lifted one hand to gently shut her up. 'It's fine. You're new here. I understand that.' After a short pause he continued. 'Now, come here and take a seat. We have business to talk about.'
Mr. Osborn's behavior really took a load off Amanda's mind. He seemed so chill. Nonetheless, she took a mental note you watch her behavior more. It still must have left a bad impression.
