4th Grade was the year I learned how much hell the real world is.

One day I was looking at all the books on the coffee table and I came across  a book I had never seen before. Being curious I picked up the book and read "How to Deal with Cancer"

Of course I thought the worse. I went to my parents bedroom to find out more stuff and I saw my dad had a teddy bear from a friend, I looked at the tag on the bear and it said

"Stay strong Jim!"

By then I was terrified.

The next day at school we read the book Ida B in class, which is about a girl who's mom has cancer. My teacher asked the class

"Imagine how it would feel to have a sick parent?"

With what I had discovered the night before, I didn't even think I just spoke,

"I do know because my dad has cancer!"

By the end of my sentence I was balling. Thank goodness we had P.E. next because my teacher told everyone to go to P.E. except for me. She wanted to talk to me. She saw how upset I was and sent me home. When my mom picked me up I didn't say anything to her. Even when I got home I went straight to my room and didn't talk until my father came home.

He sat me down and apologized for keeping that he had cancer from me. It was bad enough that my dad had Cancer! But I figured it out myself!! I was lied to.
