the awakening.
7 year old me was watching TV in our living room, full of hopes and dreams that she would one day become an Astronaut just like the girl in the show she was watching.
When suddenly she heard a painful whining of an animal coming from the backyard. Worried that something maybe happened to her precious dog Snowball, she got up and ran as quickly as her short legs allowed her to. Her not caring mother was on her phone in her room upstairs and her caring farther at work getting the bills paid.
The way to the backyard led from the living room through the hallway revealing a glass door through which someone could easily look through.
And what that little girl saw let her blood freeze and set her heart on a race, a feeling the girl declaimed as fear.
A black haired boy was standing right in front of the door, in one hand a bloody stone and in his other her once lovely white dog, now covered in a deep shade of red like fluid. Now the girl was nowhere near dump, she knew what the boy had done, the boy that she now recognized as her neighbour Charlie from across the street, the same boy she had a major crush on since he was one year older than her and stunningly gorgeous with his blue eyes that reminded her of the morning sky right after waking up.
"He wouldn't stop barking"
Charlie said quietly and although the door was closed and locked she could hear him, it's like all her senses heightened for that moment, she could even smell the metallic odour coming from the blood.
And although the girl was frightened to her teeth, she tip toed towards the door, so her mother wouldn't hear her and pulled on it, to embrace the little demon disguised as an angel. Her farther always told her to look upon those who where in need so that one day when she needed help someone would maybe return the favour.
Everything was okay, he leaned into her embrace as if it was the last thing that kept him from passing out, when all of the sudden Snowball let out a small weak puff of air.
Without any warnings she landed on the hard stone floor and as she, with wide eyes witnessed the death of her beloved pet, she realised that what she felt wasn't fear. It was excitement. It was something being awoken inside of her that was waiting to be let outside since the day she was born.
And with a thundering heart, she let it out.
