Chapter 1.

I've been staring at the clock for what seems like hours! Ugh how can one class go for so long?! It was Friday afternoon and I had history, my least favourite subject. Mr.Droy would drown on for the hour and a half about how we needed to learn from our ancestors mistakes, otherwise we'll be dammed to a life of regrets. Blah, blah, blah.

"Hey, psst! Alaska!" Josh, the kid behind me whispers.

"What moron?" I say, not bothering to lower my voice. Turning red he just shrugs and acts like he said nothing. I turn back to my exciting task of clock watching.

The bell finally rings & I head home, walking the long way to waste time. "Hey Alaska!" Someone calls from behind.

I spin around to see it's Josh again. "What?" I say, sounding more harsh than it was meant to.

"I, uh, was just wondering if you were coming to the basketball game tonight?" He stutters.

"I'm on the team arnt I?" I answer.

"Oh, yeah right! Well I'll see you there!" He smiles at me. His smile was pretty cute actually. Josh is a nice enough guy but I wouldn't want him entering my family life, I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

When I get home dads sitting at the Kicthen table. The first thing you need to know about my family is that no one is ever home. "Hey dad, why are you home?" I say coldly whilst opening the fridge. He doesn't answer. "Dad I was just kidding! Well okay I wasn't really, I mean can you blame me, you and mum are never home! It's not safe for a 17 year old to be home alone all the time" I continue whilst sorting through the different fruits on the 3rd shelf. "No it's not safe, not safe at all." A male voice says. I whip around to see a guy standing in front of me. "Take a seat..."

"Alaska" I finish. I sit across from dad but keep my eyes on the man. "Alaska, what an odd but refreshing name," he says, "your dad owes me a lot of money & unless I get that money something terrible is going to happen. You see, my boss is sort of an upfront kind of guy. Your lucky he sent me because I believe in second chances."

"Second chances?" I ask, confused as to a. Why my dad owes this guy money and b. Where I come into this.

"Alaska, sweetie, your dad doesn't have my money with him so I've made him a deal. You'll come with me until he gets the money. Sort of an incentive for him." He says smoothly. For the first time since I noticed the guy in my kitchen my eyes drift from his to my dads.

"You traded me?" I say, not able to hide the hurt in my voice. Dad just looks down. "Are you kidding me?! I'm not a book dad! You can't just let people borrow me & return me when their done!" I yell. "I'm not going with you." I tell the man. He laughs at this and pulls something sharp out of his pocket. "Honey, id like to see you try to resist."
