Kace
The waiters cleared the last of the dinner dishes and Kace stood, following Rosalie and his mother out of the dining room. His father, James, and the King had a weekly security briefing meeting follow dinner, but Kace wasn't allowed to attend. He'd tried many times.
"I've got to find Ms. Erin immediately! We've got so much to do!" Rosalie commented.
"So no cocaine or clubs tonight, then?" Kace asked. His mother swatted his arm.
But Rosalie was unaffected by his remark. "There's no time for that Kace! I've got four days!" After saying a quick goodbye to his mother, she skittered away, quite quickly on her long legs.
Once Rosalie was gone, his mother turned her wrath onto him. "Christopher Thomas Lincoln, you cannot speak to the princess in such a manner!"
"She's not going to have me beheaded, mom." Kace assured her. They didn't do that sort of thing anymore. . . right?
"That's no matter! I didn't raise you to speak to any lady that way." She scolded him.
"I can't help it, mom. She really grinds my gears." Kace sighed. "She's in a position to make a difference in the world. She has the ability to do anything she wants, and she chooses to party every night. It's a waste."
"It's not our place to judge how others spend their time." His mother reminded him. "If I remember correctly, the two of you used to be good friends."
"That was a long time ago." Kace said. "We were different people then."
"You'd be surprised." Mrs. Lincoln mused. "The exteriors change a bit, but I believe that people are always the same inside, deep down."
"Yeah, well hers is really deep, then." Kace mumbled.
Mrs. Lincoln shook her head, but she had a small smile on her face. "I'm going to the Ladies Parlor. I assume you'll be in the library the rest of the night?"
Kace nodded. "Goodnight." He leaned down, kissed his mother's cheek.
"Goodnight, my love." Mrs. Lincoln responded.
Kace scanned the aisles of the palace's library, which was larger than most public libraries. He spent most of his free time in here. He spotted a biography of King William, James's great, great, great grandfather, that he'd never read before. He plucked it off the shelf and made his way towards his favorite leather chair, hidden away in the corner. As he was sitting he caught a glimpse out the window and saw that the sunset was particularly beautiful tonight.
The view inspired him to read outside. After stopping by his room to grab his leather satchel, he made his way out and across the grounds. He walked all the way to the far end of the property, past the rose garden, and settled down for the night.
Finally you all get to see a little bit into Kace's mind! Chapter 6 will be up shortly, which is a continuation of this night! You didn't think he'd actually have a calm, relaxing night, did you? ;)
