Dark opened his eyes and smiled at the darkness that greeted him.

Hello, friend.

Standing up, Dark looked around. It was still the same bland, empty landscape; nothing really special.

Sighing, Dark sat down again and curled his knees up to his chest. What to do now...

He seemed to be apart from Mark now. He couldn't sense what his counterpart was doing, and he smiled because of it. Does this mean I'm free from him?

Maybe...

But what was this place? Dark jumped to his feet and began striding into the blackness.

However, no matter how far he went, he never seemed to get anywhere.

Am I stuck here? Dark wondered. Can I not ever leave? Not that he was complaining, of course. He felt at home here, in the void. But he also felt as if something was wrong. Like sometimes important that he had once had was missing.

Would Mark be able to help me? Dark then shook his head, angry at his own thoughts. You're not that weak that you would seek aid from him, are you?!

He stopped his wandering, head suddenly pounding. The pain became so intense that he sunk to his knees, clutching his head. What's wrong? he silently screamed. What's happening?!

Suddenly the darkness that had only just moments before felt so safe and comforting now constricted Dark. It closed in, pressuring him, making him gasp for air.

And then...

It stopped. The excruciating feeling disappeared, and the blackness was once more friendly.

Breathing hard, Dark didn't move for a long while. Then, gingerly, he stood up. What... what was that? I felt so... so...

Weak!

Dark buried his face in his hands despairingly. No! No! This cannot be happening to me!

But it was true; Dark knew it to be so. Without Mark, without his host's connection to the outside world, Dark's power was broken. He had never realized how vital his connection with Mark had been. Until I completely screwed it up, that is. Hopelessness and regret surged over him in waves. That whole Raspy Hill incident completely ruined my chances of breaking free!

Dark sat in the dark, and for the first time, he let the tears come.

Wait.

This can't be the end.

I won't let it.

Wiping the tears off his face with angry strokes of his fists, Dark slowly stood to his feet.

He had only one purpose...

I will find a way to make this right.

And I will find a way to be free!

~~~
It's been...
So long...
Years, in fact.
Dark started slow. His first step was finding how to reconnect with Mark. Once that was accomplished, he built his power up, video by video. He tried several different things: standing still and staring; screaming and tearing at his head; dialogue. Every time, no matter what he did, he could always feel himself get stronger.
But now he knew.
He had learned what to do, but more importantly, what not to do.
He put his knowledge and experience to use, and his power mended.
Of course, it was very difficult at times to control himself. But then the image of the rattling chains resurfaced, and Dark moved on from that situation.
It's taken so long, so many years, to get to this point.
But now I'm here...
And I'm ready.
Well, he had thought he was ready...
Something happened.
Something... changed.
Dark felt that he was no longer alone. He didn't know how he knew, but he did. So he searched the world, searched for the other.
And I've finally found him.
Standing tall and dark, with a green aura surrounding him, was the other. The other demon.
Dark began to form a plan.
He could be the solution to my problem.
I must speak with him.
