Pen Pals

At first it was a message,
Just a simple 'hello!'
You were oh so sweet then
Like anything sweet
I got addicted,
And suffered until the end.

In 9 short days we got together,
You dominated my life.
I was a needy creature
Oh so shallow,
And when you left for days and days,
I could barely rest my head.

You were busy,
Had a life,
And I clung onto you.
I slowed you down,
And broke your heart
As I didn't want to lose you.

Tap tap tap,
This and that,
Every second was my candy.
It rotted my teeth
And made me weak
Until I couldn't stand it.

You were empty calories,
Not so real
Unable to provide affection.
But I mustn't cheat my diet,
Oh so easy,
But too much temptation.

You a candy bar and me a glutton,
Poor fool you,
I broke you in half.
And when it came time for supper,
In tears you see,
I was full from what I'd had.

I gave you up for something emptier,
You moved onto something greater.
For months we both healed
The stretch marks too apparent.

Now we talk
But not so much,
You and I have other loves.
I look and you,
And you look through me,
And I thank my lucky stars.

For I loved you and that was clear,
But it was not meant to last.
For 1000 miles separated you and me,
And that was all too plain to see.
