Pulling up to school, I noticed that there were police cars lining the road by the woods and an unusual amount of cops scattered over the school grounds.

This had to be about the girl that was kidnapped. They must still be investigating and getting reports.

I got out of my car just as Diana ran up to me.

"Lina! My gosh, you look great!" She squealed.

"Thanks... did you hear what happened to that girl?" I asked her.

"Yeah! It's so tragic! I heard apparently she's really smart. I'm hoping she can get herself out of whatever situation she's in!" Diana exclaimed. "I know these guys are good. None of those girls were found next door in our neighboring county."

"What makes you think it's the same people?" I asked her as we walked.

"They took her the same way they took the other girls and the girls from three days ago. The cameras that normally work were all broken and they left the girls phones in the place where they took them." Diana said.

"Poor thing." Luciana said as she and Maria fell into step beside us.

"If only they had canceled school." Maria sighed.

We all gave her the look that we always did when she said something insensitive.

I didn't think she had a compassionate bone in her body but honestly I admired that. To be able to lighten the mood and make humor out of anything was probably a good quality to have.

The morning went by in a blur. There was a lot of talk about the situation around school and cops were questioning everyone it seemed. By lunch they were gone but things were still weird.

We were heading to our normal lunch table when we stopped by the football teams table. Jonas was among them, talking to the freshman girls that sat beside them. They both had long faces and one of them had tears running down her face. I had seen these two girls before. They were friends of the girl that was kidnapped. The guys must have been helping them. It was nice of them to take them under their wing.

"Hey guys... mind introducing us?" Interrupted Maria. Abruptly, they all looked up at us.

"Hey these are Sydney's friends." Jose said, staring up at us and locking eyes with Diana.

Both girls were brunettes and had young features just like their friend. "How are you girls holding up? Were you close with her?" I asked.

Relief and admiration filled their gazes when they looked at me. Even with their friend gone they still worshiped me. It was sad, really. I didn't want them to look at me like some queen sending her condolences.

"I just feel sick and in utter shock." The girl that was crying said, as she wiped her tears with the sleeve of Jonas' letterman jacket she wore. "We're all best friends. We were texting in the group chat and the last thing she said was, 'I'm going to practice'. I'm Karen by the way."

"Nice to meet you, Karen. I'm Lina and these are my friends, Diana—"

"I know who you guys are. Trust me." Karen beamed.

"And I'm Keagan."

"Hi Keagan." I smile.

"Jonas is in Sydney's anatomy class. He knew we were all best friends so he let us sit with him." Said Keagan.

I raised my eyebrows and looked at Jonas who was staring at his empty protein shake container.

"Jonas." He raised his eyes to look at me.
