Fion

"... I mean, one minute she was there and the next she wasn't. Like instantly not there. You know what I mean? It was literally like she was there and the next minute she-"

"Fion, you're repeating yourself. Please calm down or sober up, I'd appreciate either," Dorian snapped at me.

Whoa, what's his problem? I understand he wants to find Victoria but there's really no need to shout at me like that.

"How about you calm down yeah? What's your problem anyway? We killed that nasty vampire, and now we'll just go and save Victoria from whatever git-"

"You don't get it do you?!" Dorian shouted, turning around to stare at me. For the first time I noticed the dark rings under his eyes, and the slight brown stubble lining his jaw. He reached up and ran a hand through his tousled hair, closing his eyes for just a second. He looked tired, and incredibly worried.

"That vampire was nothing compared to who has Victoria at this moment. He's someone who has been trying to find a way to kill me for years. He's a distant relative of mine, and he's wanted the crown for decades. Can you imagine what he'd do to her to get to me? He'll probably kill her. And I don't know if I can stop him..." Dorian's voice began to crack at the end of what he was saying, and he abruptly stopped- turning away to shield me from whatever emotion was consuming him.

Growing up, me mam had talked about 'Prince Dorian', son of the great King Richard and the beautiful Queen Evelyn. 'They say he'll be the most powerful vampire in the world. He's got good blood in him he has. His brothers have too much sin in them, from lust to gluttony. But not Dorian. Little angel he is. There's great things planned for that lad' me mam had told me, God bless her soul.

But the Dorian I was talking to was fragile, and far from being the 'world's most powerful vampire'.

"I expected more from you," I whispered.

I saw Dorian flinch, as if my words had caused him pain, but a minute later he was walking again- be it slower than before. He didn't even look over his shoulder- it was obvious he was assuming I would follow him. I sighed and kicked the ground before jogging to catch him up.

"I never expected this from me. Love changes people," he said, glancing at me with a crooked smile.

"Love? You've only known the lass for a few days- how can you be sure it's love?" I asked. I mean, I think she's fit. In fact she's bloody gorgeous... but I wouldn't say I love her. It's like Romeo and Juliet. Was it love, or was it just lust? I'm just hoping it doesn't end the same way for Dorian and Victoria.

"It's different. I've been in relationships before and not felt anything like this- even after months and months. It's as if I've met her before- which of course I haven't. I've been thinking about it non stop for the last few hours," Dorian whispered, walking slower as he talked, until finally he stopped, "We're here."

We walked to the end of the small road we were currently walking down, and reached a long deserted road- lined with tall street lights. The road was relatively wide and incredibly straight- leading from the dark depths of the area surrounding Caledonia, and trailing up the hill towards the lit up fort at the top. No houses lined the road, only the backs of buildings from other streets adjoining it. The snow lay thick here, and it looked as though no one regularly used this road. Guess no one needs to leave the safety of the village for the unknown country around Caledonia.

Dorian walked into the middle of the road, lightly stepping on top of the snow and leaving almost no tracks. When he reached the middle he stopped and shook his head, and lowered his shoulders in defeat.
