CHAPTER 6
"Wait a second. I need a milkshake before I can even think about how to respond." Rashal whipped around in her seat in the restaurant booth, and as if the waiter had read her mind, he came striding towards where we sat, two milkshakes in hand.
If I had to say why I liked hanging around with Rashal, I'd say her being lucky was one quality. Also, her appearance was so pretty and pure and so very likable that she practically beckoned people to crawl at her feet to please her. It was definitely convenient.
Once the waiter had set the milkshakes down--giving Rashal a great white-toothed smile that she ignored--she turned back to face me. "He's cute," I pointed out.
"Yeah, sure, but besides that! Why are you just now telling me about this creepy stalker dude?" She sipped some of the strawberry milkshake through her straw, sky blue eyes intently set on me.
"It only happened yesterday..."
"Whatever. And you've met him before. How does he know so much about you?
I shrugged, grasping my hands around the cold glass. I looked to the side, watching the early autumn leaves stolen from their tree branch homes. "If only I knew."
Rashal drummed her fingers against the table-top. I could tell she was about to enter a rant by the impatient demeanor she was showing. "I wish I could talk to Kody about it," I said with a sigh, turning my gaze back to my friend.
"Well... Can't you? Maybe he could be just, I don't know, testing you. Just call him up," she replied simplistically, dabbing at the corner of her mouth with a napkin.
I took another sip of my milkshake, and shook my head. "No way. He doesn't want to see me, period. You weren't there, Rashal. He made it clear he doesn't trust me enough to fend for myself against that girl."
"So let let him just take care of her, and then once it's all done, he'll come back to you!"
I rested my chin in my hand, elbow supported on the table-top. "But how long is that going to take? If she's so dangerous, she's not going to be easy to take down. I love Kody and deeply respect his abilities, but she was terrifying. I'm not sure he'll be able to. What if he's the one who loses when it comes to a one-on-one fight? I couldn't ever forgive myself for letting him push me away. I can help him."
It appeared she had nothing left to say, silently taking in my words, turning them over in her head. It was obvious she was desperately trying to work around them, to find a solution to all of our problems.
"Have you found yourself a worthy boyfriend yet?" I asked finally, attempting to change the subject, also genuinely curious.
Rashal sighed, and tossed back her shiny blonde hair. "Nope. I was serious about the last one. I guess I'm still getting over him."
Her eyes suddenly widened and she slapped the table."Hunter's here, Hunter's here!" she hissed.
I turned, my first instinct kicking in, and saw him. He was alone, which would have seemed unusual, but not so much after Quinn's death. They were the laces to the other's shoes, after all. Still, Hunter had many friends.
He was walking straight towards our both, gaze holding mine. I abruptly whirled back right around in my seat, sending a distressed look to Rashal. I didn't know what to do with Hunter anymore. I wasn't going to date him, that's for sure, but to be friends? Not when he was so obviously wanting something more from me, even if he did hold one of my deepest secrets in the palm of his hand.
She shrugged, and slid out of her seat. I watched her, open mouthed. Was she really going to do this to me? "I'll let you guys talk," she said, and with a smile at Hunter--who was now taking her place--she strode out.
