CHAPTER ONE- "NEW HOME."

━━━━

The flashing lights that covered over the city seemed brighter as the snow fell from the dark sky. People rarely crowded the streets at this time of night, especially in the middle of winter in January, which made it easier for Zayn to go to and from his work place. With each step he took down the deserted sidewalk, briefcase in one hand, while a hot cup of black coffee was in the other, he cuts down an alleyway, a shortcut to make it faster to reach to his car that was parked only a few blocks away.

Zayn kept his normal pace, passing by a group of drunks chattering beside a fire and a couple of familiar hookers trying to get his attention, the same ones he's passed everyday for the last few years. They try but Zayn always had that dark glare in his eyes that would let them know he wasn't interested in them.

As the end of the alleyway come up only a few feet away, his eyes quickly dart over to the movement beside of the large dumpster, a small paw quickly slid under it as he slowly approached, his brow furrowing in slight confusion. Bending down, Zayn sat his brief case onto the ground as well as the cup of coffee to take a peek under it, ignoring the horrid stench.

"Hello?" He called out in a soft tone, hearing a small whimper coming from a curled up body.

He pulled out his phone from the pocket in his suit jacket, turning on the flashlight and pointed it up under the dumpster. A pair of wide violet eyes stared back at him, filled with fear and sadness.

"D-Don't h-hurt me pl-please." She murmured to him, her voice raspy and small that Zayn barely could hear her. He noticed her slowly scooting back more towards the brick wall, but it seemed like she was injured from the way she limped back on her leg.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna do anything." He replied, turning down the flashlight brightness a bit. Her body relaxed a little, but still shaky. "What is your name? I-I'm Zayn."

She didn't say anything, just stared back with those bright eyes that made him only want to comfort her more. "It's ok, theres no need to worry. Im not going to hurt you." He assured her.

"I'm J-Julianna." She said finally.

"Julianna." He repeated. "Are you lost?"

She looked down and slowly shook her head, keeping eye contact from him like she wanted to say something, but couldn't. Zayn looked at her worryingly, not even noticing the small puddle of blood that she was soaked in. His eyes quickly looked down, the red substance now soaked a part of his jacket as he let out a low grunt.

"How about you come from up under there. I can help you. I can take you back to your owne-"

"No..no.. please. D-Don't make me go back." She cut him off, shaking her head frantically, the look on her face more petrified as she started to mumble to her herself, the words for which Zayn couldn't quite make out.

"Okay, okay. Calm down. I can help you. Keep you safe." He said, knowing that something must of happened to her from the way she freaked out and it didn't seem like a good idea to leave her stranded out here all alone. "I promise, I won't hurt you. You can come with me." Zayn offered.

He knew he couldn't be able to keep her for long. Being in the medical field as a Doctor never allows you to have the time for a relationship, nonetheless a pet. Everyday in the hospital, never being at home to care for Julianna the way she should be was too risky. It already seemed her last owner didn't much succor the girl.
