Chapter 9

I felt a pair of hands hold me back as I tried to get out of bed. I turned around confusingly and saw Joe was holding my waist. I hurriedly shook him to wake him up but he just groaned and pulled me closer. "Just a couple more minutes please."

"Joe! We have to get up before Zoe and Alfie suspect something!" I twisted away from him and tried to get away.

He whined and let me go. "Okay fine, but just this once." Joe sighed and got up. I rolled my eyes and went to get ready.

As soon as I went downstairs, Zoe was already making breakfast. Alfie had a camera in his hands and put a finger to his lips, telling me to be quiet. I nodded and silently watched as Alfie sneaked up behind her and yelled, "Zoe!"

She jumped up and let out a small squeal. Alfie laughed and hugged Zoe from behind. He turned off the camera and set it down on the table. I came out from where I was hiding in the corner and began to laugh. "Vanessa, you were in on this too!?" Zoe turned around and put her hands on her hips while holding a spatula.

I nodded and high fived Alfie. Joe came in yawning. "What did I miss?" He sat down by the table and scrolled through his phone.

"You missed me scaring your sister. Vanessa was in on it too!" Alfie pointed at me and grinned as Joe shook his head slowly.

"I always miss the good parts." Joe pouted and Alfie patted his back while chuckling.

Zoe walked over and started placing plates on the table. Alfie helped her carry plates filled with food. "Is this what they call an English breakfast?" I gazed over the food hungrily as we started serving ourselves.

"Yeah, hopefully you like it. I made it especially for you!" Zoe smiled as she bit into her toast.

After we finished breakfast, Zoe asked if I wanted to go for a walk with her and Nala. I said yes and put on my jacket as we headed outside.

It was a bit breezy but I didn't mind it. It felt pretty good. "So, how do you like living in London? Is it your first time visiting?" Zoe asked me as Nala walked ahead of us.

"I've actually been here before, about two years ago. I really like it though and I've met some really nice people too." I put my hands in my pockets and took in the scenery around us.

"That's good to hear. Joe may be a bit quiet sometimes but he's just shy around new people. He'll open up soon enough." Zoe smiled at me and patted my shoulder.

I shook my head. "Joe doesn't get too quiet around me. He seems nice."

"Yeah, he's a good guy. So do you like anyone?" Zoe nudged my arm and raised an eyebrow at me.

I looked away embarrassed, I can't tell her I might have a small crush on Joe. It's her brother! "No not really, I'm not focused on relationships right now. It's complicated when I move around."

"That's true but you shouldn't have to feel like that. Have some fun once in a while!" She chuckled and stopped as Nala began to sniff something.

I shrugged and let out a small sigh. "I don't know. I'll try my best. Thanks for the talk."

"No problem! And if you have any trouble with Joe just tell me, don't let him prank you!" We laughed and continued on with our walk.
