On the first day of March 1997, a baby boy was born in Freeport, Grand Bahama. The baby was given the name Delon Demettre Thompson JR. Delon was raised in his birth town. He would soon be known as the miracle boy.
He went to school just like all the rest of the kids and found it easy to make a friend with the others. He loved to read and write but also loved to have fun. He would always have a smile on his face, whenever you passed him, he would greet you with a simple "Good Morning". Delon always finished at the top of his class in every grade he went in.
He always gave his best, in everything he did. Everyone loved to have him around because he was very respectful and loved to help others. He never would be in any problems and always did what he was ordered to do.
The school year was quickly coming to an end and Delon started to plan on how he would spend his summer vacation. He started the summer off by working with his Mother in her shop, he was 8 years old at the time.
On the tenth day of June was when his life changed forever!. It was a beautiful warm summer day and Delon was at his Grandmother's house along with his first cousin, Dimicko Sawyer, better known as meko. Meko was a 13 year old boy. They spent the day playing video games, then Meko said to Delon "I am going by Ben and benniko, to play basketball". Ben and Benniko was two neighbourhood friends. Delon loved to play basketball. He said "I'm coming with you", his Grandmother heard and said "NO!! Stay here". But the two young men still went on their journey to the friends house.
After 10 minutes, they arrived at the friend's house. They played basketball nonstop for 2 hours. Suddenly Meko said to Delon " lets go home now, I have to get ready", Meko and his girlfriend was going out that night. Delon replied by saying "lets stay and play one more game", but Meko disagreed. The two young men left to go back home. Delon was angry at meko, so he walked really slow. Meko turned around and realized Delon was too far back and stopped and said to him "lets go!", but Delon walk even slower. Meko then continued walking, not knowing they were both in real danger. After couple seconds Meko turned around a second time and saw that a car was heading straight towards them. Meko quickly ran back to push Delon out of the way, but it was too late. The car struck them both.
Delon got knock with the center of the car and flow into the air. The car hitted Meko but not nearly as hard as Delon got hitted. Delon landed on a sharp rock, it stabbed him in the back of his head. He was unconscious. Meko made it out with a few broken bones and multiple cuts. He was terrified and all he could think about was his cousin. Meko stood up on his knees, crawling around looking for Delon but his cousin was nowhere to be found. He noticed an area that had millions of flies covering a round object in the road. The crippled teenager began to make his way towards the object. When he got to the object, he looked next to it to see that his cousin was faced down on the side of the road, with the entire back of his head opened. This scary sight brought tears to the boy's eyes, as tears ran down his cheeks, he said "I never thought I would loose such a friend".
Everyone in the neighbourhood ran outside as soon as they heard that terrible event. A crowd of people ran and gathered around what looked like a dead young boy on the side of the road. Then a man came into contact with that circular object Meko had seen. A closer look revealed that it was the badly injured Delon Thompson's brain. Everyone was in tears that tragic day. After waiting for 30 minutes the ambilence finally arrived and took the injured boys to the hospital.
After that deadly car accident happened, both their Mothers was called and was told about what had happened. At the hospital, there were lost of upset emotional people.GOD'S AMAZING WORK
After the incident Delon and his cousin was hospitalized. Meko was treated and released after a few days but as for Delon, his long amazing journey had only just begun. Delon's family and friends was all worried and heart broken.
After many hours Delon's Mother and Father was called into a Doctor's offices to be notified on their son's current condition. Once in the office the Mother and Father was told that "there's no more the hospital can do for Delon" Mother of Delon broke into tears as the Father said "You have to do something! PLEASE!" The Doctor said to the father that "the only way that Delon may have a chance of living is for him to get airlifted to Nassau". The Father said " YES! Take him now!", they were then informed that the cost of the airambulance will cost $30,000. The bill was paid by the Father.
Delon was flown to Nassau , New Providence. He was then rushed to Princess Margrit Hospital, where he was worked on for hours by Doctors. The next morning Delon died shortly after 8:00 A.M, and his family later learnt about the horrible news. A Doctor by the name of Dr.Magnus tried one last time to revive the dead boy. He finally succeeded and Delon was breathing again, which brought hope to loved ones. Delon continued to slowly recover but still he stayed in a coma. Two days passed and Delon stopped breathing yet again and this time he was surely believed to be gone for good. Doctors rushed over and treated the not once but twice dead young boy.
The family's Pastor was called to the hospital to pray for the boy. After a hour of crying and praying Dr.Magnus managed to bring back the strong surviver, Delon Thompson. Hope was once again brought upon the family of the badly damaged boy. Delon remained in a coma for 6 months, slowly recovering. The Docters told the Mother that "there was a 2% chance of her son living and if he do survive, he will be a vegetable for the rest his life". Delon's Father stayed by his side straight through the whole recovery. Every now and again Delon's Father would grab his hand and called his name, squeezing his hand, to try and wake him up but Delon would never respond in any way. Delon's Mother and Father came to the hospital every morning at 7:00 A.M and stayed until 12:00 A.M.
After six long months the badly injured boy opened his eyes. His parents came in and jumped with joy. They tried to talk to him but Delon could not do a thing but lie there and stare. Delon was fed through a tube in his stomach. He was finally released after he awoke from the coma. He was then named the 'MIRACLE BOY'.
