Hugo feigns interest in the words of a colleague, hoping against all hope that the other can't tell how little he cares right now. His son, Ernest, has managed to get himself in trouble at school yet again. Ever since the divorce, Ernest has been acting out both at home and at school. The school's policy states that parents aren't allowed to teach their own children, so thankfully Hugo has never witnessed any of Ernest's bizarre acts firsthand. That doesn't stop any of his colleagues from telling him all about them in as much detail as they can, though. Hugo would normally at least reassure whoever had addressed him that he'd talk with Ernest later, but his classes today have left him mentally and emotionally drained. He just couldn't be bothered to care.

After enduring the conversation with his colleague, Hugo exits the school building and gets in his car. Ernest had said something about hanging out with friends after school today, leaving Hugo with an empty passenger seat for his suitcase. While he has no problem with Ernest being gone for who knows how long, Hugo doesn't exactly like the idea of going home to an empty house right now. He also doesn't wanna start grading any papers yet. Now faced with a dilemma, Hugo lets out an overdramatic sigh before leaning back in the driver's seat. After doing this for quite some time, Hugo suddenly shoots upward as an idea overtakes him. Smiling to himself, he shoots a text to his friend and neighbor, Damien.

Hugo: Hey, classes were rough today. Wanna meet at the Coffee Spoon in, say, ten minutes?

Damien: Ah, Hugo! Hello, my dear friend. I would love to indulge in the wondrous world of warm beverages with you. I will see you there.

Hugo puts the key in the ignition and is about to drive off when he gets another text.

Damien: Let us hope that your little Lattelicious Lover Boy can make everything all better~

Hugo chuckles as a light blush paints his cheeks.

'He's been hanging out with Joseph too much.' Hugo thinks to himself as he speeds off toward the Coffee Spoon.

The Coffee Spoon is a small coffee shop that opened in Maple Bay a couple months back. Since it's within walking distance of the cul-de-sac they live in, Hugo and Damien decided to check it out the day it opened. Hugo had sworn off romance after he divorced his husband, but that was before he met Mat Sella, the shop's awkward but cute owner. The three men discussed the wonders of art in all its forms, and from that conversation blossomed a wonderful friendship. Ever since that day Hugo became a regular at the Coffee Spoon, often stopping by after work for a latte to ensure that he finishes grading the various essays he assigns his students. Damien occasionally tags along, but only to tease Hugo about his crush.

After parking his car, Hugo approaches the entrance to the Coffee Spoon. He isn't surprised to see that Damien had beaten him there. Damien sees Hugo coming and smiles as he greets his friend.

"Hello, my friend." Damien does an overexaggerated bow, his cape flowing in the slight breeze.

"Hello, Damien." Hugo chuckles as Damien regains his composure.

The two head inside and are greeted by the familiar scent of coffee wafting throughout the café. Mat can be seen taking a customer's order nearby, smiling down at them as he offers friendly conversation. Hugo feels his face begin to burn as Mat runs his fingers through his dreadlocks, one of Mat's adorable habits that Hugo can't seem to get enough of. Feeling a tap on his shoulder, Hugo turns to see Damien smirking at him.

"If you are done ogling the barista, my friend, I would like to sit down." Damien's tone is not short of teasing.

Hugo glares at his friend before sitting himself down on one of the couches. Damien joins him, and the two wait patiently for Mat to take their order.
