"So how'd it all go last night?"
I gritted my teeth, looking up at Logan as we walked towards the training room the next morning.
"I'm going to guess pretty good judging from the fact I didn't hear screaming or anything breaking? Don't know how you managed to that, kiddo. I must say I'm pretty impressed."
I smiled at that. I'd known Logan for barely 24 hours and he already felt like a big brother figure. I liked that.
"It was difficult," I started, ready to rant on how much of an asshole Kade is. "Has anyone ever gotten through to him?"
Logan sighed. "Kade's all business. If he does have a soft side? I haven't seen it since I've been here, which is what? 15 years?"
"Wow." I was implying both to Kade's non-existent soft side and how long Logan had been here.
I thought I might've seen Kade in a different light for the tiniest, brief moment last night. Maybe I didn't. But it really frustrated the hell out of me. I didn't think we'd ever get to the point of "Hey, Dad!" That much was evident.
We approached the training room and the thought of seeing Adrian made me happy. That was strange, I hardly knew the guy. But he was the only one here who had been honest with me from the start, and I needed to be around someone I could trust. Then the thoughts of Kade's punishment came back. If he'd hurt Adrian it would've been all my fault.
"Good morning Little Miss America." chirped Adrian as we entered the training room. He sat up from the bench press, a towel sitting on his neck, beads of sweat coating his magnificent square jaw. Oh yeah, and he was shirtless. I had to look away as soon as I felt the heat rise in my cheeks.
"G'day," I replied ironically, worthy of the title he'd given me.
"See you guys later." Logan announced, leaving the room. I thanked him and waved goodbye, taking the chance to peel my eyes away from Adrian's torso.
"You know your picking up an accent already?" Adrian laughed.
I still kept my eyes away from him. "No. Really?" I asked
"Mm hm." He mumbled and I mentally swooned. How could a mumble be so damn sexy?
"Something wrong?" He must've been referring to my lack of eye contact.
"No, nothing." I decided to turn to a much more important subject.
"What did Kade do to you?" It was so blunt, but I had to know. If it was my
Adrian froze. "What do you mean?"
"You were gone, Kade said he had to teach you a lesson. I never meant for you to get in trouble-" I rambled, panicked over what Kade may have done to him.
Adrian paused, as if he was trying to work out what to say. "No, nothing happened. Just a brutal lecture."
An immediate flood of relief came over me. "I'm sorry. I thought he might've hurt you."
Adrian chuckled, "Only my pride." Thankfully, he reached beside him and pulled a singlet over his head, allowing me to put my attention back on him now without blushing too hard.
"Still, that wouldn't of happened if I kept my big mouth shut." I muttered, feeling utterly guilty and rightfully so.
He stepped closer to me and put a hand on my arm. It was warm against my cool skin and sent a tingling feeling down my spine. "None of this is your fault, Scarlett. I thought that you deserved to know."
I carefully observed the lines of his face, his square jaw and the dimples in his cheeks as he smiled. How I was beginning to love that smile....
"Thankyou" I replied, meaning it fully. "Its good to know I have someone who I can trust."
