As soon as we had stepped into the building I could see a few reasons why he might not have wanted us to come. There was a very heavy sent in the air. It smelled a little different depending on the spot we were at the crowd. It always had the same strong base that was obviously alcohol. But some parts smelled like sweet things, like peaches, coconut, oranges, strawberries, and apples. In other parts it smelled really strong and nasty like cough syrup, and different types of medicines I watched mother eat whenever she goes to the hospital. She has been making trips there a lot lately cause she keeps drinking way too much wine and hurting herself in the process of trying to walk down stairs and apologize to us about her and dad arguing.
Not only that, but everywhere I looked I could see actions that were nowhere near acceptable for what a girl Jessica's age should be seeing. Along the walls you could all sorts of people making out, sticking their hand up in each other's shirts, or down into their pants. Some were even taking off a few layers of clothing like it was one hundred degrees in here. The ones that weren't on the walls trying to get a one night stand where on the dance floor. Now granted they weren't taking off their clothes or anything but they were grinding so hard it looked like they were going to burn through them, making out like it was a contest to see who could swallow the others tongue the most, grabbing genitals like they were in a self defense class learning about that topic but not trying to do the other any harm, and sucking on their partners neck like it was made out of a lollipop.
I wrapped my hand around Jessica's eyes and briskly walked after James. James was saying hi to all of his friends, complementing most of the girls, and walking so slow it seemed like a turtle could get to the table we were going to be sitting at three years before we ever reached it. What seemed like forever, but was in reality only seven minutes, we reached a round table in the very back of the building. It was in the very back corner and there was a bunch of food waiting for us to arrive and eat it.
"Remember to stay right here at this table, and don't drink anything but what is already on this table." James stated before walking back off into the crowd from which we just got out of.
I asked Jessica if she was hungry, because I was starved. "Yes, I'm very hungry I haven't eaten since breakfast." She softly whispered.
"Yeah I am too. You can have anything you want on the table." I said as I mixed some Sprite with a bit of cherry flavoring to make her a Shirley Temple. I made a second with more cherry flavoring in it for me. I set hers in front of her and handed her a plate that was beside me. I looked out unto the vast airy of food that was beheld before me. I had quite a few options. We had a choice between chicken nuggets, chicken wings, hamburgers, French fries, Mac & cheese, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pizza, pork chops, and ribs. It looked like someone had made the whole kitchen for us to eat. I didn't even know where to start. I started with the food closest to me. I put a few wings and my plate with some Mac & cheese, one slice of pizza, and a few ribs. Jessica grabbed a hamburger, a few wings, fries, a pork chop, and a little bit of spaghetti. We bowed our heads and held each other's hand and said grace. I never really understood why our family said grace before we eat. I mean they say it's cause we have to be respectful to the gods but how am I supposed to do that when I don't even believe in them or any god for that matter?I took a sip of my Shirley Temple as I pondered over how they could possibly believe in gods. I felt the ice cold drink flood into my mouth blessing my taste buds with the rich flavor of freshly picked cherries. I loved the flavor of cherries for some reason the taste of them made me feel relaxed and peaceful. As I finished swallowing the rest of it that was in my mouth a guy sat down beside me.
I glanced over at him. He looked very familiar, I was pretty sure it was one of James' friends that had been over at our house before. He had short, black hair that was spiked up right above his forehead. His eyes were a mesmerizing emerald green color, and he had a nice body composition. "Hey, you're James' sister right?" He asked right before flashing me a bright white set of teeth.
"Um, yeah I think I remember you from somewhere but I can remember where though." I shyly stated.
"Well my name is Austin. I believe yours is Elisabeth, am I wrong?" I asked as he blessed me with another glance at his perfect rack of teeth.
"No." I shyly say.
"It isn't Elizabeth? I'm so sorry. I feel horrible." He said in shock.
"No, no, no. It is I was saying you weren't wrong." I say in between giggles.
"Oh, ok, well I feel stupid now." He said while smirking.
"Well you shouldn't, it sounded better in my head." I said right before I took another sip of my Shirley Temple.
"So, want to dance with me?" He shyly questioned.
"But, we're not allowed to leave this table with anyone!" Jessica complained.
"Yeah, but one dance won't kill me." I replied while I took Austin's hand and left for the dance floor.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
