Prologue: Episode 1: Nightmare

"Stephen King once wrote that 'Nightmares exist outside of logic and there's little fun  to be had in explainations; they're antithericalto the poetry of fear.' In a horror story, the victims keeps asking 'why?' But there can be no explainations and there shouldn't be one. The unsolved mystery is what stays with us the longest and it's what we'll remember in the end. My name is Alan Wake. I'm a writer." - Alan Wake

I always have a vivid imagination, but this dream unsettled me. It was wild, dark and weird even by my standards. So yes, it started with a dream. Following a typical nightmare pattern, I was late, desperately trying to reach my destination -- a lighthouse -- for some urgent reason I'd couldn'y remember. I'd been driving too fast down a coastal road to get there. As I entered a dark tunnel, I turned the steering wheel. The car screeched as it turned but as I looked in front, I looked in horror as a man was standing in front of me. I slammed the brakes but it was too late. The man fell onto the gravel road, motionless. I'd seen the hitchhiker too late. I exited out of the car, looking at the body as I approached for it. I staggered slightly as I bent down, putting my two fingers on his neck. He was dead. My heart sank. I was convinced they'd put me in jail and I would never see Alice (my wife) again. The car lights suddenly stopped emitting its bright lights, leaving me in darkness. I turned back but gasped this time. Fear took over me as I fell onto the ground now, crawling backwards as I tried to regain my standing posture. Suddenly, his body was gone.

I was still shock from the crash and I could even hardly stand on my feet. I sprinted, abandoning the car as I knew that it already broke down. The head lamps were a guide for me as I ran from light to light. I looked at the scenery and saw the lighthouse that was far away, its lights shining throughout the scenery. I had to go to the lighthouse ebcause I knew that there was something important waiting for me there. I headed for the wooden bridge, trying to keep up with the pace. As I looked behind, a shadowy figure stood at the accident. Instantly, as if it travels light, it stood right in front of me, welding an axe. The lamp post stopped emitting light as the lamp broke except for the one behind him.

"You don't even recognise me do you, writer?" he spoke. I ran back, realising who he was as he continued to speak. "You think you're God? You think you could just make up stuff? Play with people's lives and kill them when you think it adds to the drama? You're in the story now and I shall show you how it feels like!" he yelled.

I did not care to listen to him as my feet took me further away from him. I fell down to the ground as I  jumped down from the broken bridge and jumped across a barrier. I did not dare to look back, running for the wooden gate in front of me. However, I was too late. The man was standing in front of me, holding his axe as he continued to yell.

"You missed your deadline!" he continued, his voice becoming distorted at times as he continued to speak.

"Damn!" I muttered as I approached him. I sprang to my left as he sent the axe at me but missed, hitting the ground instead. I managed to evade him.

"You can't stop me!" he shouted, his voice becoming distorted once more. I realised that the hitchhiker was a character from the story I'd been working on. I opened the fence, running for my life.

"How does it feel to die in the hands of your own creation?" he said as he was already at the fence. Soon, he transformed into a typhoon, his body evaporating into black mist as the wind became stronger.

I sprint, not daring to stop or even looking back for I knew I would be dead if not. The comforting lights in front of me even broke down as I was plunged into darkness once more. I started to slow down as I felt my legs weaker and I was running out of breath. I panted heavily but I continued to move. I crossed a bridge when a voice shouted out from the other end of the bridge.
