"Primrose Everdeen." Effie Trinket, the district escort, says.
Primrose Everdeen. Primrose Everdeen. It hasn't sunken yet to me fully. IT'S ME! I'm the tribute! I'm going to die!
I wake up screaming. Luckily it was just a dream. But more like a nightmare. Today was the Reaping, and it's my first one. But I order myself to relax. My sister Katniss was fortunately not woken up. I pull the blankets up to her chin while I transfer to my mother's bed. I tuck myself in, and I try to sleep. Buttercup, a loyal cat I brought home long ago, cuddles with me, and he helps. But more nightmares came... Katniss dying, mom leaving again...
When my father died, mom became mentally ill. She never talked. She was always in bed. Even if I pleaded, she doesn't respond. But little by little she came back to us, helping prepare food and laying out our clothes. I forgave her but Katniss didn't. And until today, they aren't in good terms.
I wake up again, and the sun is rising. I decided to milk my goat Lady and make some cheese for Katniss. I wrap the cheese carefully in basil leaves, leave it on the table and cover it with a wooden bowl. I go back to sleep, and now I have a dreamless one.
The next time I wake up it was already 8 am, and Katniss was already probably hunting with Gale. Mom helps me get dressed and when I look at the mirror, I look breathtakingly beautiful. It does not look like Primrose, the girl who lost her father when she was 7 years old. The girl who also lost a mother for a period of time. Anyway, mom does my hair in two braids. Then Katniss comes home, seeing us ready to go. We wait for her, and mom helps her get dressed. When she comes out, she looks in a mirror.
"You look beautiful." I say.
"And nothing like myself." Katniss replies.
Katniss hugs me and I hug her back. I'm really worried about her, but I stay positive.
"Tuck your tail in, litle duck." Katniss says. She smoothes my blouse back in place. I giggle and say "Quack.", and Katniss replies "Quack yourself." and she does it with a light laugh.
"Come on, let's eat." she says and she quickly kisses me on the top of my head.
