Chapter 2

“You’re telling me that I’ve been kidnapped and brought clear across the world for my own good?”  I asked incredulously.

Draven and I were sitting in the dining room with a few other people who lived here.  We had been told by Claudiu that Katarina wanted to speak with us here, where breakfast was laid out atop a spacious wooden table.

Katarina had attempted being polite and danced around why she needed to talk with us, but after I had refused to eat or drink anything offered to me until she told me something, she gave up and spilled.

“I told you before, it was never my intention to kidnap you.  Jordan has been detained for that and there is a meeting scheduled for this afternoon to decide what punishment he will receive.”

Katarina was sitting at the head of the table, dressed as if she were going to work behind some desk in an office.  She had on a tight black pencil skirt and sported a fitted gray blazer.  Her blonde hair was piled atop her head in tight bun, accentuating her uptight demeanor.  Imagining Katarina in anything resembling ‘casual attire’ was not possible.

“But yes, you were brought here for your own good.  I know of your powerful psychic powers and I find it to be somewhat of a sin to let it go to waste.  My intentions were first only for Draven to be brought here but then I learned of you.  My son had his own journey in Third Eye as do you.  Your potential for psychic power is amazing.”

I wasn’t sure what she wanted me to say.  Did she want me to thank her for tearing me away from my home just so I can foster my “psychic potential”?  That was ludacris.  Draven’s mother is crazy.

“What’s in it for you?  You don’t know me.  Why do you care about my psychic powers?”  I asked her, not understanding why she did care at all.

“Well, you are involved with my son, after all.  Making you part family.  I care about what happens to you.”

“Okay?”  I knew I was being rude but at this point I didn’t care.

“I understand this is all very confusing for you as of now.  Soon, though, you will fit right in.  I have set up arrangements for our chief tutor here to assist you in your psychic training.  Fane.”  She gestured down the table toward a man who looked to be about twenty four or so who was seated, scrolling through the cell phone in his hand.  Dismissively eating the food on his plate.  He had shaggy dark hair and had what appeared to be a permanent 5 ‘o clock shadow.  He was attractive.

“Fane,” Katarina called a little bit louder, “Fane!”

He finally looked up in surprise, “What?” He asked in a gruff voice.

“I was just telling Miss Dansescu, here, that you are going to be her tutor, but I can see your phone must be far too important to look away from for two minutes.”  She was speaking through her too perfect teeth, obviously annoyed.

Fane appeared un-phased by her ranting, probably used to it.  “Calm down.”  He turned to look at me then, he held out his hand for me to shake, I took it tentatively,”Very nice to meet you, Miss Dansescu.”  He grinned and brought my hand up to his mouth to kiss it.
