It seems that as long as the world has existed, there have always been rulers. Leaders to guide the common folk and protect them. Of course, if everything was so black and white, there would be no issue; but no matter what they would have you believe, they are but man and man is a corruptible beast indeed.
The seven continents of the world, Jibullen, Seluthon, Einfrunt, Tedraden, Fritanna, Midisia, and New Amikile, are each ruled by several royal families. The Altrist family is by far the most well known of all royal families. They were rather similar to the Fraise family, a royal family on the continent of Midisia. They are both known for their war strength and their large territories. Both families loathed each other due to their major differences.
The Altrists worshipped Malpirg, the Phoenix of Life, God of Life and Light. Meanwhile, the people of Fraisea were not even human. They were vampire-like magic users that had the ability to use their own blood in different ways to assist them in their duties (mostly for combat). They worshipped Malpirg's rival, Necerium, the Raven of Death, God of Death and Darkness.
Centuries ago, the Fraisean King, Alexander, planned an invasion on Einfrunt to pillage it and take over. This was because it was a very small continent , unprepared to battle such a large army. It was also a major trading partner for the other continents since it had many rare resources and could easily ship out to the majority of the continents. They planned to starve the other continents so they could conquer them later on. They nearly succeeded, but Altrasia joined the battle and drove out the Fraisean army.
They decided that it would be unwise to allow the Fraises to recover from the war and strike again. The head of the Altrists, King James Altrist sent soldiers to Midisia to silence the Fraises. The Fraisean Royal Family and their people were slaughtered and the land was claimed by Altrasia. Hundreds of years later, the current king, Jack Altrist, resides in Amikile. He had decided to rename Midisia to completely forget the Fraisean Massacre. He renamed Midisia to Neo Amikile and gave rule of two provinces to his sons. Eventually, the Fraise family was mostly forgotten by all and lost to time; however, Alexander Fraise had grown paranoid after the defeat at Einfrunt. He cast a spell on his youngest daughter, a young girl of fourteen years in human age (700 by vampiric standards) to put her in a deep sleep for a set amound of time. He created a complex of catacombs under his castle and sealed her away in a coffin. His wife called him a madman, yet he cared not. His son called him a fool, yet he cared not. His eldest daughter left the family out of anger, and he cried. Eventually, Lord Fraise found himself with an enemy's blade to his neck. The man asked Alexander if he had any last words. He told him: "Damn you, your family, your king, and your country. Let it be known that though my family dies today, the Fraises will rise again like the phoenix you worship with such piety. Now, plunge your blade into me, weak willed wench!"
