Sonia Harley never wanted to do anything. She had no friends, and she didn't want any either. She perfectly content staying home cooped up in her room watching anime all day. She didn't have to worry about drama, or boyfriends. She convinced herself that she was better off never having any relationships. That changed though. On her last day of school, her opinion changed, everything changed.
Sonia was graduating highschool, and she already had a scholarship to a fancy college. But on the last day...
Sonia slung her bag over her shoulder as she walked down the neverending halls of the highschool.
She was glad that she would never walk down these halls again, and she was especially excited to never have to see all the students again.
She listened to her footsteps on the cold concrete floor, trying to tune out the chatter of the other students. She looked at her feet as she walked, trying harder to listen to the foot steps.
Her thick auburn hair fell over her shoulder and temporarily blinded her. One more step and then-Thunk-
She tripped over her own foot and fell face first onto the hard ground. She could feel her eyes water, and her face growing red.
The small sound of the students laughing was enough to make Sonia explode with embarrassment, but just to make things worse for her. She was wearing a miniskirt, and her underwear shone clearly to everyone in the school.
Over come with embarrassment, Sonia shakily stood up. She felt lightheaded, and as she stood up she started to fall again but something caught her.
Her vision was blurry, but she could just barely make out his features. His hair was jet black and his eyes were so green that she almost thought she was in a forest for a moment. She felt him running. Running to the nurses office maybe? That would be the reasonable thing to do.
He set her down gently. The ground was soft, and the only place with a soft ground was the library.
"I don't have a lot of time to explain, but I'm the one that pushed you. This is a warning to you, find me in the forest as soon as you wake up, no matter what. I have to go. They're after me. I'm sorry!"
Sonia opened her eyes and sat up quickly. She took a deep breath in. Her head was throbbing. Sonia rubbed her eyes to see the bookshelves all around her.
I'm sorry! Repeated the voice in her head. It was his voice. But who was he?
She stood up slowly, the world still slightly hazy. When her vision cleared up, Sonia's eye came to rest on a book that she had never seen before.
History of Heroic Heroes
"What?" Sonia mumbled to herself. She picked up the book and turned to the first page. A note floated down and landed on her boot.
She bent over to pick it up, and as she stood back up, all the lights suddenly shut off. It was pitch black. In the distance there was a small bit of light from the window. Sonia carefully found her way to the window, surprisingly not knocking any books over.
Sitting under the window, Sonia opened up the note.
The forest please.
What forest, since when was there a forest? She turned around and looked through the window, right in front of her millions of trees sprouted from the ground. Twisting their way up into the sky. Sonia felt drawn to it, she wanted to go right through the window and find that guy. But wasn't he just a dream?
"I guess I've got nothing to lose." Sonia reasoned, so she slid the window open and steppes over onto the grass, still carrying the book.
"Where did all these trees cone from? I have to be dreaming, I have to be." a small breeze blew right at Sonia, sending a chill down her spine. She walked deeper into the trees. The air was humid.
"Well I guess it is summer." Sonia said as she took off her hoodie and tied it around her waist. "But if I'm having and feelings at all, then I can't be dreaming. This is insane." she slapped her forehead. A dull sting ran across her head. She definitely was not dreaming.
The breeze caused a few leaves to float in spirals until they disappeared into the sky. In the distance, Sonia thought she heard faint piano. She walked toward the sound. As it got louder Sonia could feel her arms and legs getting sore, and the speed of the piano increased. Her walk turned into a run as she desperately tried to reach the source of the sound.
The piano began to play "dance of the sugar plum fairies" and the trees, leaves, and flowers danced along. The leaves incased her arms and forced her to dance. The vines wrapped themselves around her ankles lifting her into the air. She tried to scream but another vine wrapped around her face.
"That's enough!" a voice shouted. It was somewhat familiar.
The leaves and vines dropped her, but before she hit the ground someone caught her.
His arms were warm. She wished she could stay in them forever. She opened her eyes to see that boy from the dream. His hair was wet, and it dripped onto Sonia's face.
He set her down gently.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
Feeling the need to defend her reputation as a tough person, Sonia decided to reply with a witty remark.
"No, I'm obviously not alright, I was almost torn to bits by vines and leaves, how humiliating." she said as she crossed her arms.
"Are you dead?" the black haired boy asked.
"I really don't know anymore. Who are you?" she finally snapped back into reality.
"Well, I guess I have time to explain now. I'm Almon, the fairy." he bowed dramatically.
"A fairy huh? Aren't fairies supposed to have wings?" Sonia inquired.
"Not necessarily, though there are some fairies who still have wings. It's like a generation of fairies who don't have wings.
What is your name?"
"I'm Sonia, why am I here? What is this place?" she looked around at all the trees, who were all completely still.
"This is the Alvina forest, it's the safest place in the north besides the fairy kingdom." Almon patted the grass like a pet. "West is the Dragon kingdom, where you belong."
"Where I belong? What do you mean?" becoming incredibly confused, Sonia felt vulnerable.
"You're half Dragon, kind of-"
"Kind of?! Isn't there a simpler way to explain this?"
Frustrated, Almon took a deep breath in, "Your mother is actually a Dragon, and your father is a human. Don't ask how, that's a story for another time." he cut his eyes and looked left for a moment. "Have you ever found it difficult to socialize with other people?"
"Well, yes but-" Sonia paused, she was quote taken aback. Half dragon? How is that even possible?
"That's the dragon inside of you. Dragons usually hate humans, and find them so disgusting that they don't want anything to do with them. You're mother, however, is a god to some fairies, and even some of the demons."
Demons? Fairies? Dragons? Was Sonia going insane?
"Oh that reminds me, it's time for you to meet Vito, he can explain better. Would you mind following me?" he turned around, inviting Sonia to hop onto his back.
"Oh what do I have to lose." she mumbled as she hopped onto his back.
Almon jumped up into the air and took off like a bullet. He flew so fast that Sonia's little skirt almost flew right off, along with her hoodie and backpack. She clenched the bag as tight as she could, it contained the book she found in the library earlier and she intended to read it at some point in time.
They flew past mountains where giant people roamed, and little swamps where small frail witches lived. How could this place not be part of a dream? It was straight out of a fairy tale. They glided around in circles until they landed softly on the ground. In front of them was a dark cave that glowed red from the inside.
It was hot and humid, and with each small breeze came a gust of hot hair from the cave.
"In there," Almon pointed to the cave, "is the Demon king, Vito."
