A Murder At Street-26

It was a cold winter night. I was walking through street-26. That particular street always seems isolated. Full of trees on both sides and a small curve like about 45° dividing the road and yeah.... It did seem scary to walk alone, just then I heard faint footsteps.

It got closer and closer every second. I stopped in horror, when I saw a man about 6 feet tall in a black hood and faded jeans run from that curve. I took only the glimpse of his left eye which looked quite sharply at me and a cunning, wicked smile.

Then I didn't think much of it and made my way back home.

Next morning when I was jogging in the same street I saw a crowd of about twenty people standing on that curve.

Out of curiosity I went there and asked a man with shaggy brown hair and blue grey eyes who looked quite lean,"What's wrong? Why is everybody standing here?" The man pointed his hand to the right and said,"Yesterday at about 11:30pm there was a murder that took place." His voice was deep and eerie. I immediately thought about yesterday's incident but didn't tell a word. Instead I asked,"Any details about the murderer?"

He just shook his head and said," Not much I've heard, but they say the murderer was a male and was approximately 6 feet tall." That second my heart stopped beating and I started sweating. I just walked away after thanking the man.

I just couldn't stop thinking who it was and why would he do that? I was also frightened as the man from yesterday night had a full view of me.

So, I had a quick shower and a toast and headed to the police station and told him about yesterday's incident. I saw his name badge and it said Officer Glenn. He seemed to be a good listener but after I finished there was an uncomfortable silence in the room. After a few minutes he said," Thank you Sir.I hope we find who the killer is", and walked away.

I headed to Google and honestly... Everyday at Google is tiring. I closed my eyes and that's all I knew. After a good sleep I started for my work. I had a seminar to finish and after doing that I went on to check my mails as they were really important.

I was going through and there was an unknown number so I immediately checked it out and it said-

I'M WATCHING
YOU DARE REPORT ANYTHING ELSE.

At first I didn't get anything and then after a few seconds I realized that it was the man from yesterday night. I stormed through the office and headed home. It was already late so I had a sandwich and watched some TV ( just to clear my mind) and got to bed.

I was such an idiot that I left the window open and the rain had completely drenched my bed, leaving me with the only option to sleep on the couch. I put my spectacles on the table, just then I noticed an envelope sealed neatly. I wondered what it said and opened it. It had a neat handwriting which was easy to read. It read-

Did you see who the victim is?
Well ... I guess not.
Why don't you check it out??
Huh!!!
St. Agnus, Street-34.

Next morning as the envelope said I went to see who the victim really was. I went to the street and found the building. It was eriee with huge black gates and a tree with hardly any leaves on it. I walked forward into the building with an uncomfortable feeling. A horrible smell filled the building.

I asked a man who was quite short and had a grim expression to lead me to the victim and he did so. He revealed the body to me. My senses stopped working. I was about to collapse but held myself. A wave of nausea hit me when I saw the body. I knew him from my childhood. He was Stan Rodriguez, my only brother. He was just 23. Whoever the killer was, he didn't have mercy on Stan. A new anger built inside me, but I didn't show it.

I headed to my office and checked for the number from where I got the message. I was scared to dial the number but anyways I did it.

After a few rings someone answered the call. His voice was deep and creepy. He said,"Did you meet the victim?"
I didn't answer.
He said again,"I know you saw me that night, but you were foolish enough to let me go." He then let out a hollow and high-pitched round of laughter and ... the phone hung up.

Beads of sweat indicated that I was completely terrified. I worked for a while and left home.

I couldn't sleep well that night. The image of the body kept coming in my brain and the words of the killer kept echoing. I just started to sleep but a phone call woke me up. I didn't know the number but I answered the call.

It sounded like the killer. The same deep voice, he said," How ya' doing Derek?"
I asked immediately,"How did you know my name?" Which was one of the most stupidest thing to do.
He then said,"I just do, my friend."
His voice was even more disturbing this time.
He continued,"Meet me tomorrow near Dylan's Café at 8:00 am. If you don't that will be the end of your life."
The phone hung up.

I didn't sleep after that. At 6:00 I took a shower and kept thinking about the killer. The more I thought about it, it made me even angrier. I stepped out of the house at 7:30 to be at Dylan's Café by 8:00.

I guess I arrived by 8:00 but was not sure as I didn't have a watch at that moment. I saw a man with blue jeans, a white shirt and a black hood and was about 6 feet tall. I decided he was the man and headed forward.

He smiled at me,  the same. Cornered smile.
He said,"Good to see you Derek." He had the same cold voice.
I asked," Why did you tell me to come here?"
He said,"I actually want to take you to another place which is more peaceful. Follow me." He walked slowly for me to follow and kept checking at times to check whether I following.

After a few minuets he took me to a narrow road with side walls full of graffiti, it was isolated. He then took off his hood, he had dark hair and light brown eyes. I seemed to recognise him. He looked very similar to someone I knew.

Then it struck me. I was speechless as to why Ethan would do such a thing. He was one of my brother's closest friend. He had a dagger in his hand, but I didn't care. I just charged at him with rage. He slashed his dagger across my left arm.
I asked him,"Why did you do it?" My voice was angry.
He said,"Your brother betrayed me." His voice was really high.
I asked,"How?"
He then calmed down a bit and said,"We were like the best mates ever."Suddenly his voice was high pitched,"Until he betrayed me by taking his share of money and even mine, that's why I had no other go rather than killing him.

"The whole office stares at me so suspiciously as all of them think I was just pranking. That night when you found the envelope, I took my share and a part of his and ran away. Now tell me, wasn't it wise on my part to do it?"

Then he laughed in a low tone which was not appropriate at that time. I stared at him in shock hardly believing anything. He then said,"Now as you know everything it isn't wise for me to let you live, right?"

He pointed the gun at me and CLICK, the trigger went on into a BOOM!
