The darkness overcame me. I could smell my sweat. I could taste my blood. My heart raced as I sprinted through the forest stumbling over vines. I subdued the urge to cry and shouted her name out . Her name, the most beautiful name on Earth. My throat was sore from shouting and my voice, unrecognizable. I heard my dupatta rip as I scraped past an overgrown banyan tree. If only I could find her. I would do anything to stop those animals. Her screams were resonating in my ears. She was somewhere in this forest, struggling to overpower those monsters, begging for mercy, begging to be left alone. Imagining it made me nauseous. I ran faster. My limbs gave way and I collapsed to the ground exhausted. My continuous efforts to heave myself up went in vain. My legs had turned into limp pieces of flesh. I crawled and dragged my body That's when I saw it. Her hair. Out by the roots hanging from a thorn on the bush. A cry of terror escaped my throat. My body hauled itself up of it's own accord. I had to reach her before she gave up. I had to reach her before the fiends did. Unless they already had.
