Working in the cafè was hard work. It was located on the most busiest street in the most busiest part of town, so everyday we were packed to the brim with things to do. To be honest, though, I didn't mind. I liked earning tips and I liked cooking and baking- my specialties. Meeting new people is always fun, too, but only if they're the kind ones.

"Harry, could you get me a couple blueberry muffins? I'm taking them home to my grandma- It's her birthday and they're her favorite, as you know," my co-worker, Maisie, asks me. I happily oblige and open the glass case and grab out three blueberry muffins.

"Muffins, eh? Not a cake or anything? I'm sure we have one in the back you can give her," I say as I pack the muffins into a brown paper bag with our logo on it. Maisie shakes her head no. She goes to enter the three blueberry muffins into the register but I stop her.

"Hey, don't worry about it. It's on me. Tell your grandma I said happy birthday and I'll visit you guys soon," I say with a smile, and hand her the bag. She laughs and gives me a bear hug.

"That means so much, Harry. Thank you. You know how it is- it's only me and her and she can't work, so I'm the one paying bills and shopping and-"

"Maisie, it's okay, I know. It's just three blueberry muffins. You're welcome, though," We both unknot from the hug, and she smiles up at me.

Maisie and I have been friends for awhile, both working at the cafè for almost two years. She's a year younger than me, so I try and look after her. Especially with what she's going through. I love to help- if that means buying her grandma a couple muffins a few days a week, or even chipping in with her rent. I have nothing better to spend my money on, anyways.

"Closin' time!" My boss, Teddy, shouts as he comes from the back- where we bake and stuff like that. Me and Maisie let out sighs of relief, it was only me and her working today, so you could only imagine how tired we are.

Teddy is basically the dad of this establishment. He's 58 years old, I think, and he is the sweetest old man I've ever met. He's also owned the place for most of his life. Him and his wife used to own it together, but she unfortunately passed away a year ago.

"Finally," Maisie laughs.

The three of us finish off the day by cleaning up, which included: sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, putting food away, taking the trash out- you know the drill. Once we're done, which it usually only takes an hour for closing duties, Maisie and I head out while Teddy stays to lock up. We both wave our goodbyes before getting into our cars and driving off. Today was a very good and productive day, and as always, I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring me.
