I slipped on my favorite blue dress with red and white flowers. My light brown, curly hair was down. It almost never was down. Mother always said it was beautiful and I should wear it down more often but I replied that leaving my hair so drastic wasn't lady like. I buckled on my shoes and clacked into the living room. I sat down on our leather couch and dove into one of my favorite books while mother was cooking, father was prepping paper work, and my younger brother and sister, Asher and Ellian, were outside planting coins in the ground in hope that they would grow money trees.
Life was good. Life is still good. But there's always that one spot in your timeline that you dread to speak about, or even think about to yourself.
I hadn't even finished the second chapter and my littler siblings weren't in the house yet. I heard a loud pounding at our front door. It startled me and I immediately ran to the back door to call the children inside. I had an idea of what it was. I thought it would eventually happen. It's just... I never really believed myself.
"Open up you stupid pigs!" Shouted the awful monstrous Nazi officers.
Before anyone could go to the door, which we weren't going to do, they burst the door open just as the kids came running in through the back door. I had ran into the hallway and I tried to conceal the frightened children.
I whispered shakily ,"Go to the basement! You'll be safe there. Once we've been taken and the Nazis are gone, come out of the basement, go to Dad's work building and ask for Darlene. Tell her all that happened and she'll find you somewhere to go." "Don't fret my loves. I can't have you found. You're all too young. We'll come back I promise dearies!" Darlene was a dear family friend. She had been my mother's best friend since they were 2 years old. I was positive she would help them.
The poor children did as I said, quietly crying, tears streaking their broken-hearted faces. I stayed standing there in the hall until my worst nightmare had became a reality. The officer snatched me by the arm, squeezing it as hard as he could. I didn't cry, for the children needn't hear my pain. They might've been found if they tried to help me. My arm felt like it was going to fall off. Then the officer threw me to the wall beside my parents. I grabbed mother's hand tightly and tried to tell her that I had hidden the children. She eventually got the message.
"Well well, what have we got here?" "Three of you. Is that it?" Asked one of the officers
"Yes." Replied father
"Is that so?" Said another
"Yes! That's it!" I exclaimed. It just came out. Like a scorching fire, it bubbled and crackled in my throat and then the fire roared out and couldn't be taken back.
"We've got a feisty one here, don't you think, boys?" Said an officer through gritted teeth as he took me by the throat and pinned me to the wall. "Looks like she'll just have to go a bit earlier than the rest, eh?" He said as he reach for his pistol.
"No, stop it Kaiser!" Shouted an officer. His uniform had the last name Komonav embroidered on the breast patch. "You cannot kill any more people!"
He put his gun back in the holster and released my neck. I was great full for Komonav. That's the only good thing a Wehrmacht ever done for me, but I can say Komonav saved my life that day.
"May we pack our things?" Questioned father.
"You have 5 minutes to get your things." Komonav replied
I went to my room and quickly found an old school bag to pack. I filled it with clothes, earrings, shoes, a pen, journal, books, and my prize possessions, a family picture, and a picture of me with my very best friends. My friends and family always helped me through everything. Even if they were only in a dusty picture.
I had roughly 2 minutes to go tell the children goodbye. I sneaked down to the basement, tears trailing my face. "I love you two so much. Mother and father do too. We'll come back. Just do what I said, go to Darlene!"
"I love you, sissy." Ellian said with a sad story all over her face.
"I love you too, Lisianna!" Asher hugged me so very tight. Their hearts were no more.
I blew them one last kiss and cried the whole way up the stairs to the living room.
That was the last time I saw those two poor babies for over 10 years
