Legolas felt as if his heart just broke in half at the sight of his beautiful wife, he didn't knew what else to do. He fought the evil to make her future a better and safer place, he watched with his own eyes as the eye of Sauron fell, to know that when he comes home he knows his wife was alright that the darkness that has corrupted his wife's heart was vanished.
But no.
All he could do was let a tear slide down his face as he slowly approached his wife, he sunk to his knees and held his wife by her waist sobbing "Nindariel my love... I'm sorry... please forgive me." Nindariel caressed his head and stroke his hair as tears also filled her eyes whispering "No need to be... *coughs* sorry my love." in the background Gandalf and the rest of the company arrived happy and thrilled that they could now live in peace once more.
As their eyes fell upon the couple from the distance who were both in tears and looks as if their hearts were breaking, their shouts of happiness and tears of joy stopped. Gandalf didn't know what he could do to save a dear friend of his, Aragorn bowed his head while Gimli started tearing up.
"Aragorn, why do you think that Legolas kept his wife a secret for 2 years?" Gimli asked his friend curious why Legolas never brought her up especially when he was such in deep pain. "I.. I... don't--" Aragorn was cut off by an angelic voice "He was hurting everyday as he thought of her especially when he talked about her so he focused on fighting to keep himself alive and make his wife have a better future. He was scared that if he even mentioned her name he would break down." everyone turned around to see a beautiful parade of elves as Lady Galadriel led them beside her was her husband, Lord Celeborn.
Lady Galadriel's eyes drifted over to her youngest daughter who stood in the distance her eyes full of sorrow. Lord Celeborn then left his wife's side and approached his daughter. Once Legolas noticed Lord Celeborn's presence he stood up and bowed down while wiping his tears. "Come my daughter! You are not well. You must leave these lands and head to the Undying Lands." Lord Celeborn spoke to his daughter as he grabbed both of her weak hands.
"No!"
"You must or--" Lord Celeborn tried to explain.
"NO! I will not go! I belong here. The sea doesn't call to me, I'm not ready. If my destiny is to die then I shall die here." she said as angry tears ran down her face. The hope that once filled her had turn into hatred and anger. She balled up her hands but as she tried to gather her strength to push her father away she fell to the ground but luckily Legolas was there to catch her before she hit the ground.
"You are weak Nindariel. You must go." Legolas encourage her, he couldn't help it as much as he wanted her in his arms he didn't want to see her die. He was afraid that if he watched her die knowing that he couldn't do anything and he allowed to let her die he would go mad, no he wouldn't fade of grief, but he would go mad killing anything that may anger him. "No." she repeated but this time even weaker. Legolas shut his eyes tightly as he fought the tears that want to escape once more instead of clenching his hands as he held the one thing that made him soften to the cruel world that surrounded him.
"I am the Lady of Hope, I am suppose to give hope to these people!" Nindariel hissed as viciously as she could "But what else do we need hope for?" Lord Celeborn asked his loving daughter. "Hope that we could live peacefully again instead of the fear that has now claimed our hearts even in Sauron's defeat people are still scared, people think they may never live the way they used to... I can't leave... not now." she said sadly as she looked around her. People didn't make eye contact with her knowing that what she said was the truth.
She could feel their fear, their sadness and their hesitation in living peacefully once more. What happens if evil will rise again their happiness and peace will be crushed again and they rather let it be crush than to experience the full extent of their happiness and watching it get crushed.
"Nindariel darling... there is nothing you can do, You are weak you can't--" Lady Galadriel was cut off by Nindariel saying "But I can at least try!" more like she sobbed out. Lady Galadriel gave a small warm smile to her daughter knowing nothing will ever change her mind especially when it comes to people who need her or her husband. Legolas then grabbed Nindariel's staff which was leaning against the stone railings he then handed it to her, Nindariel tried to smile but she was even too weak to even show something so simple. She held her staff up as she tried shining the light among the people but right as her light went to the brightest as it could it quickly died down.
Everyone stared at her worried, Nindariel looked at her staff and mumbled to herself "It's not working." she then looked at Gandalf and asked "Can you fix my staff Gandalf?" Gandalf looked torn but he spoke, "Your staff is not broken Lady Nindariel, it is your hope that's broken." he dreaded to say those words but Nindariel deserved nothing but the truth.
Nindariel frantically looked at her staff and said "No, this can't be... my staff must be broken. It's not my hope. Please you gotta believe me." as she looked among the people who gave her sad looks her eyes then stayed on her husband who was looking away "Legolas, do you believe me?" she asked him, Legolas didn't want to answer as he tried ignoring it Nindariel sobbed out "Please, do you believe me?" the tone of her voice could break anyone's heart. Her voice was filled with sorrow and pain, the feeling that just kills you slowly without you noticing.
"I'm sorry Nindariel, but the darkness has also taken your hope." he said softly as his eyes met hers. Nindariel looked to the ground as she bit her lower lip she then started shaking her head when suddenly she dashed off at the edge just where the Steward Denethor jumped off everyone flinched and gasped even her own parents and husband didn't expect it. She stood at the edge it looks as if she would jump any moment. Legolas and Lord Celeborn tried approaching her slowly when suddenly Nindariel's staff was pointed at them and she hissed "If you come any closer I'll jump."
"My love, there is no need to act this way," Legolas tried telling her that what she was doing was foolish, "Act? You think I am acting? Pretending? I have always done that for the pass few years pretending as if nothing was wrong with me. It's not fair! We should be celebrating and I would be on my way here along with my children but we're not just because of this darkness that has haunted us for centuries and I can't have what I want because of it." she cried out as tears streamed down her face.
"Nindariel, darling we can talk about this and maybe find a cure for--" Lady Galadriel was once again cut off by her own daughter "Cure? There is no cure! I've looked and found nothing. It is either I leave these lands or I die by the hands of Sauron even though he is dead himself! And I shall not give him that satisfaction! Not even in death he will win!" Nindariel hissed
In the background Gandalf was saying something to a butterfly then it flew away.
"Nindariel please..." Legolas begged her to get away from the ledge. "Nindariel dariling--" "Nindariel think--" "Nindariel let me--" many people were talking at once and it made her frustrated. Nindariel shook her head then screamed at the top of her lungs which made everyone go quiet then she swung her staff as fast and as hard as she could to the ground, the blue crystal at the top of her staff shattered and the white wood was broken-- a black shadow then came out of her staff and turned into ash.
Suddenly Nindariel drew in a sharp breath her eyes rolled to the back of her head as she started falling backwards towards the ledge. "NINDARIEL!!" Legolas shouted as he watched his wife fell from the ledge and without thinking or hesitation he ran and jumped off the ledge in a diving position hoping he could get to his wife before she met the ground. If she had to die then he shall die with her as well.
Legolas then grabbed a falling Nindariel pulling her into his arms as he waited for the ground to show him death.
"I rather die with you than to live a life without you." he whispered to his wife even though she might not hear him.
