I was downstairs setting the table for breakfast after my mom had asked me to, when she wasn't looking I was dancing around in my bare feet, twirling. I wasn't super excited about going dancing, but I was happy about being able to go with Hunter again. I was practing to make sure I remembered a few of my moves, I twirled again, looking up to see my mom staring at me, a skillet in her hands. "Goodness me, Bailey-Marie, what's gotten into you, to make you dance around this early in the morning?
I froze and looked back at my mom. "Well - I -see - yesterday." I didn't know where to start, let alone if I should tell her.
"You met with a boy yesterday, went to dinner with him, and now he's asked you to go dancing with him." She spilled out, my eyes widened and I gaped at her. What was she? A mind reader. "Close your mouth Bailey-Marie. We're not frogs waiting to get flies, and don't forget I was you age once."
I closed my mouth right away. "So.. may I?"
"So may you what?"
"So may I go? I don't have to do any of the chores!" I added in as if it was some sort of deffense.
My mother rolled her eyes and turned her back to me returning to the stove. "Why are you asking? What's my rule?"
I almost face planted myself, I was dumb at times. "If you have nothing to do, and you feel like it would be ok to go, it's alright to go." I repeated the rule I'd heard so many times. I did have nothing to do today because my dad had given the day off, and I didn't really have a choice about going. It was either that or going out on stage with him, in front of thousands of people and dancing... yup going dancing with him it was!
"Exactly.. so who is this boy?" My mother asked, turning around from whatever she was stirring.
"Uh.. well.." Just then the door opened saving me. "Oh look, dad's back." I said setting the fork down as I went to the front door. "Hi dad."
It wasn'r my dad, it was more Jason. "Wait, I'm a dad?! Since when was Elsa having a baby?!" He said. fake panicking. I whacked him.
"I thought you were dad ok! Besides, speaking of Elsa, aren't you supposed to be out with her?" I asked, Elsa was his girlfriend, I knew he was planning on asking her to marry him soon, they make an interesting couple, but I'd love to welcome her into our home.
"She rainchecked me this morning, she said something about having to go to White House at the last minute." He spoke walking past me. "Dang, something smells good. Mom what areyou making?" He asked, wandering into the kitchen, I followed him rolling my eyes.
"Breakfast." She said simply, taking the spoon she was holding and whacking my brothers hand. "Not yet."
"Ow!" My brother said. "Why not?"
"Because your fathers not here yet, besides, I think after twenty years of raising you, you'd know not to touch the food before everyone was sat, and grace has been said." My mother said promptly, picking up the pan with eggs and put them on the table. "Bailey-Marie, go find your father please."
"Sure mom." I answered and ran out of the room before my mom could scold me for answering her like that, I came out of the screen door, greeted by the sunlight and barking. My black lab, Luke was running towards me when I looked down. "Hey buddy!" I said as he came running up the steps, he barked in response and jumped. "Wheres daddy? Can you find him?" Luke ran off in a certain direction as I ran to follow him. We came to an old shed we have in the back, Luke was sitting there batting at the door and whining. "Good boy, go find the cat." At the mention of the word cat, Luke jumped up and went off, his tail in the air as he was growling, I laughed, he was strange. I then went over to the door and knocked, this place was pretty much my dads workshop for the things he was working. "Dad?" I yelled.
"Yeah Bales?" He answered in response, comfiriming he was in there.
"Breakfast is ready." I told him.
"Ok, I'll be right in." With that I turned and ran back to the house, curious why my dad was always in that old shed working on things this early in the morning, well, I guess it wasn't that early seeing as it was already after nine.
I slipped back into the house and sat down at the table next to my brother, a few seconds later my dad came in after me, kissed my mother good morning then sat down. We said grace and began eating.
"So, Bales, whose this boy you were out with last night?" My dad asked, picking up a piece of bacon, and looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
I coughed at his question before I recovered. "W-well, ya know... just some boy." I answered quickly shoving a piece of egg in my mouth.
"Yes but what's his name." My mother joined in, curse my family for being so nosy,
"Hunter." I said.
"Hunter what?" Jason asked.
I stamped on his foot under the table. "Not helping." I muttered at him. He rolled his eyes at me and went back to eating.
"What's his last name?" My dad pressed, man there was no use trying to get away from this.
"Hunter Hayes." I spoke, feeling myself deflate as I slumped against the chair.
My dad choked on his coffee and burst out laughing. "H-Hunter Hayes? As in the Country Music Star? Nice one Bales." He was still laughing as he went on eating. "Now come on, what's his real name."
I glared at my dad, and said with a straight face. "Hunter Hayes. Yes the famous one. I fell off of Jason's shoulders at the concert, and he saved me. I was back stage with him, Jason saw the entire thing. He can confirm it, seeing as he was the one who dropped me."
My parents looked to Jason who was glaring at me from the corner of his eyes. "Yeah, he did save her."
"He gave me his phone number, that's who I went to see yesterday, and that's who I'm going to meet in a few hours." I spoke, glancing up at the clock, it was almost ten thirty, I would have to start getting ready soon.
"He sounds like a nice boy, where is he taking you today that you have to go meet him so soon?" I glanced over at my mother, man, I swear nothing ever surprised her.
"I have to go to Nashville, that's where he lives and.." There was no way I could tell her that I was going dancing with him. "We're just going to spend the day out and about I guess, probably have dinner again." I answered her.
"That sounds wonderful, you should bring him home soon."
"M-mom we're not dating, we're just becoming friends." I spoke.
"I know, but I can still meet your friends right?"
"Y-yeah I guess."
"I don't like it. Bailey your not going." My dad suddenly spoke up.
"W-what?! Dad!" I said, abrubtly standing up. "You can't do that!"
"Bailey." My mother looked at me, she had a stern look on her face but she had that look in her eyes, I knew she was on my side. "Bill, calm down. She's just going to Nashville to see a boy, lighten up."
"A male whose over twenty isn't a boy, he's a man. And my daughter isn't going to see a man, when she's still just a girl."
"Age doesn't matter when it comes to that, and keep in mind that she said she was just going to spend the day with him. " My mother gave him a smile and that look that he dare not argue with her.
My dad grumbled as I smiled, jumped up and hugged my mother, "Thanks mom!" I jumped up and once more ran upstairs to get ready to go.
