Harry Potter

"So you're his husband, correct?"

I nod my head hastily. I still can't believe that I have to play the part of Draco Malfoy's beloved husband.

"Because I don't see you on any of his permanent records."

My breath hitches.

Oh fuck.

I let out a small chuckle and scratch the back of my neck, bowing my head slightly with the goal to not look him in the eyes.

"The um.. the wedding wasn't official or anything. We did it secretly." I say, offering a nervous smile.

I'm expecting for the nurse to call me out on my bullshit. To see right through this unconvincing lie and turn me in to the police.

But he doesn't.

Instead he nods his head knowingly.

"Of course. Now sir, it seems that your husband is in extreme pain and can barely move. Would you say that's correct?"

I nod my head quickly.

He hums and writes something down on his clipboard.

"Now, there's something I need to speak to you about. I'm afraid it's serious." The nurse says looking me in the eyes with such pity. I turn away from him quickly. I hate when people have pity for me.

"Go on." I sputter out, still not daring to look into his warm eyes.

"Another hospital has offered to take Mr. Malfoy under their wing. A problem with this is that I have never heard of this hospitals existence until just now," I quickly nod my head. It was probably a wizard hospital willing to take him in. "Another problem." He says looking me strait in the eyes. His eyes stared deep into my soul and as much as I wanted to look away, his eyes held me in.

"What is it?" I say finally, urging him to go on.

"Moving him now would cause him great pain and could possibly cause some serious issues from within his lungs."

I sigh loudly.

"What's the name of this hospital?"

"St. Mungos"

Of course. The most trusted wizarding hospital in London could fix him up in no time, but (just Malfoy's luck) getting him over there would cause him extreme pain.

"I'm leaving this decision in your hands sir." The nurse says with a warm tone.

I open my mouth to make my decision and suddenly we're walking back to Malfoy's room.

As we enter through the drab blue curtains that act as the door for his room, we hear choked sobs.

I speed walk into his room only to see Malfoy in his hospital bed, unable to move, having a panic attack. He's crying so hard and his eyes are darting all around the room. If his body was available, I knew he would he withering on the floor.

The nurse enters behind me and looks at Malfoy with shocked eyes before turning back to me. "Would you like me to do something with him?" He asks quietly. I shake my head no. "Just leave us be for a couple seconds." I mumble back. The nurse whispers a few things I can't make out and leaves the room.

I make my way over to Draco's bed slowly. Unfortunately, he only begins to cry harder. He begins to mumble, "Stay away, stay away." Over and over again.

I look at him and begin to walk even slower towards him. "Malf- I mean, Draco." I whisper.

"Stay the fuck back Potter. Don't touch me." He mumbles quickly.

"Draco, you're going to be okay. Just repeat these words," I begin, remembering what my therapist told me, "Calm, soft, light, gentle, tired, bright." I say naming off word after word.

Malfoy doesn't respond at first, just closes his eyes and let's out a loud sob.

I take advantage of his eyes being closed and move closer to him. I begin to attempt to rub his back all while whispering the words "Calm, soft, light, gentle, tired, bright." Over and over again into his ear. I see goosebumps cover his body as I begin whispering and his breaths begin to steady. After about 4 minutes of the previously stated actions, Malfoy starts to name off the words along with me.

He sighs, signifying the end of the calming exercise.

And then something truly amazing happens.

Draco Malfoy looks me strait in the eyes and says, "Thank you."

He didn't say it very loud but it's as if those two words echoed the room. Just two words but they're filled with such emotion and raw feeling that you would be insane to dismiss it as something small. The words ran up and through my body, giving me goosebumps all along my arms and legs.

And that's when I knew,

I knew I made the right decision.
