"I promise."
Murdoc kept his promise to 2D, he kept it well. However, after one night, a small crack had been made.
The four band members had just gotten back from a show, and Murdoc had had way too much to drink.
After bringing in her guitar, Noodle started to help Russel bring in the components to his drum set. 2D would've liked to help, but was too busy trying to keep Murdoc from accidentally spilling the beans.
"Cut it out Murdoc!" 2D said to Murdoc, who was trying to get his hand in 2D's pants. Noodle ran in carrying a crash symbol. She put it down next to the other parts of the drum set, then ran over to try and help 2D.
"Murdoc! Russel's coming in! What ever happened to staying under cover?" She whispered. "I-I think he's too drink to- God dammit Murdoc cut it out!" 2D yelled. "What ever happened to the whole faking no change thing?" Noodle asked. "Oh yeah." Murdoc said, stumbling his way to the bookshelf by the door. He grabbed a small hardcover book, and began to walk towards 2D.
"M-Muds, what are you doing?" 2D asked, just as Russel was coming in with the last of his drum set. 2D eventually decided to run, but Murdoc chased him. They ran around a large pillar a few times before Murdoc decided to start running the other direction. Luckily, 2D quickly turned around and went the other way too. They ran around it like that for quite some time before Murdoc turned around again. This time however, 2D was caught by surprise as Murdoc threw the book at him, hitting him in the chest.
2D fell backwards, Murdoc still standing where he threw the book. 2D could only make out the silhouette of Murdoc pulling out something from his pocket. It took him a second to realize that that something was a switchblade.
"W-What are you doing." 2D said, crawling backwards until he hit the wall. "M-Murdoc, t-this isn't funny." He tried to get up, but he hit his head on the tip of the small table he was under. Murdoc was right in front of 2D, who could see his reflection in the blade. "M-Murdoc please, don't do this." 2D begged. Murdoc bent down and gave 2D a small cut on his right cheek. Then he held the blade close to 2D's neck, but it wasn't touching him. "Too late." He said, grinning like he used to. "P-please no. D-d-don't do this Murdoc." "I think it's about time you shut the bloody fuck up." Murdoc brought the knife right up to 2D's throat. 2D closed his eyes and whimpered as he began to feel a sharp pain, but it quickly went away.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the switchblade on the floor, and Murdoc being dragged away by Russel. Noodle helped 2D up, and told him to run. He looked over at Murdoc, who was screaming like a madman. "What are you doing? Run!" Noodle yelled at 2D. She picked up the small blade and ran off to her room to hide it from Murdoc.
2D, as instructed by Noodle, ran down the hall and into his room. He locked the door and caught his breath.
He thought about what had just happened, remembering how clear his reflections was in the blade of the knife. He quickly tried to take his mind off of the terrible event, by going to sleep.
The next morning when he got up, he went to go check on Murdoc. When he entered Murdoc's room, it was pitch black. "M-Muds? You in here." He asked. 2D heard the zombie-like groan that meant yes, and turned on a lamp.
Murdoc had fallen asleep on the floor (or fell on the floor overnight), and was still wearing his clothes from the night before.
He slowly got up, his hair looking (even more) like a bird's nest (than usual). "Sweet Satan my head hurts." He said. "You were pretty drunk last night. Russel had to drag you away from... er, forget that last part." 2D said.
"He had to drag me away from what?" Murdoc asked. "Eh, it was nothing.... everything's fine." 2D hoped Murdoc wouldn't ask. "Oh D," Murdoc began. "You're a terrible liar." He said. 2D sighed. "I just didn't want you stressing out about it, but... well... After we got back from the show, you almost blew our cover. So then Noodle asked about the whole faking it thing. And then you went and grabbed one of the books off the shelf, and started chasing me around with it. Then you hit me with it, and pulled out a switchblade from your pocket. Y-you almost got me, uh, i-in the throat... but you didn't, 'cause Russ dragged you away. Uh, I'm not sure if telling you this is a good idea, but Noodle has the blade in her room... if you want it back that is." 2D explained to Murdoc.
"Oh Satan, I am so sorry." Murdoc said. "No it's fine, you were drunk." 2D tried to assure him. "No, it's not fine. I... I hurt you. That's not okay." Murdoc insisted. "Muds, it really is okay, I'm safe now. Noodle and I just should've chosen our words more carefully." "No, I shouldn't've had so much to drink. Don't blame this on yourself. Don't blame this on Noodle, or Russel, or anyone but me. This is completely my fault." Murdoc insisted. "Um, well, uh, o-okay then." 2D didn't bother arguing any more.
