There's no such thing as "the perfect character" and that's okay. We don't want that anyway.
We want a character we can relate to. We want someone we can say, "Yeah, I'd do that, too." We want to see that person and think, "I want to be just like them." They are people we wish were real, even though we know we wouldn't have a clue what to do with ourselves when they were.
And we like when they are based off of real people. For a moment, it's like watching the book come alive, seeing the man or woman who unknowingly represented something that meant more than they could ever know.
Our characters are our heroes.
But, sometimes, they're our villains.
And that's okay, too.
