It was a dark, foggy night in Renneville. The stars were blotted out by the thick mist, the mist that covered ever square foot of this town. The frightened towns people dare not look outside – for tonight It roams the streets, looking for the unlucky prey that were left outside, to face this beast. It was the monster of Renneville.
Clara and her husband, Nick, had just bought a new home, not too far from the city, but not in the city. They used to live in an apartment in the suburbs of London, a small one that wouldnt support them and the baby that was coming. They decided to move; it was risky, going to a new town with little to no experience outside the city, but the fresher air and room latched onto them before a single word was spoke. Their home used to be owned by an old lady, named Marjorie. She was quite sweet, offering them biscuits and tea, in an obvious attempt to make them buy it. But their minds where already set on buying this home, seeing as how cheap it was, at 550,000 pounds, and how large the garden would be for their daughter. It was a four bedroom, detached home, on the outskirts of Renneville. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
They left on the Friday, as on Thursday all their furniture had been moved to their new home. The left at around 6PM, to get there in time to sleep for the night. They got into their car, a small compact, and drove off onto the m11 towards their new home.
When they were close, about an hour later, a thick fog started to descend upon them. Nick turned on the fog lights, and squinted in. He could only see about 3 meters in front. Clara started humming a nursery rhyme, and turned on the cd player. It was Adele 25, so this relaxed her. She closed her eyes and started to get to sleep. 15 minutes later, they arrived into Renneville.
Nick stopped at the gas station. He looked to see if anyone was there. No one. It was deserted. He switched on his phone, and opened Google Maps. He typed the address. He sighed. It was only 3 minutes away. He switched on the car, pulled out of the gas station, and drove as quickly as the fog would permit.
He arrived. He opened the car door, pulled out the keys and opened their new houses large, oak door. He quickly got the suitcases with their clothes and photo albums. He then picked up his wife, carefully, and brought her upstairs, and lay her on the middle of the bed. He went back out, closed the door to the car. Just as he was about to close the door to the house, he felt unseen eyes digging into his back. He turned, and saw a silhouette fade into the mist. He rubbed his eyes. He had forgotten how tired he was. Tired enough to hallucinate. He closed the door, got a blanket from the suitcase, and slept on the sofa.
