Maybe Fate had a greater plan for them. Maybe their destinies were linked. Maybe they were supposed to feel the way they felt. Maybe it wasn't their fault. Maybe they were cursed. Because it sure felt more like a curse than a blessing. People may have dreamed of being like them. Who wouldn't want to be the Sun and the Moon ? Them, that was the answer. But they had to.

That was their fates, since the beginning of times.

He was the light in the night sky while she was the brightness in the day. He was dreamy and over-protective. She was bright and liked being the center of the attention. He liked the loneliness. She longed to be surrounded by people. He was pale, with light blond hair and blue eyes. She was tan, with dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. He was named Jace, remnant of his true, secret form. She liked being called Helena, in reference to her real, hidden identity. They were total opposites; that's why they completed each other so well.

They didn't look alike and didn't have the same personalities. Yet they were unconditionally and endlessly in love with each other. They didn't know when it had happened. Maybe it was love at first sight, maybe it was meant to be that way. Maybe this was Fate's way of playing with them. Because what life would they live if some obstacles weren't placed along the way ? Did anyone get to have a life without any complications ? Was it supposed to be that way ? At least not for them, that was for sure. The Moon and the Sun weren't allowed to be together. That was what had been decided, even before they were born.

Of course, the Sun was older. Almost 95 million years older. But was it even that great of a difference, when they were 4 billion and a half years old ? They had been around each other for so long, but not really. Helena watched over Jace for so long, she was there for his birth. She wanted so bad to see him, but was not allowed to. She was too young, that's what she had been told. Fate and something even greater couldn't let that happen. She would destroy him. She could only watch him from afar.

They had important roles to play with everything. Mostly with a planet, their beloved Earth. If they were seen together, this would have tremendous consequences. This was the only reason they followed their orders. Growing up and old enough, they started mixing with the creatures inhabiting the Earth. Through the ages, these beings started to look more and more like Jace and Helena. These creatures were called humans. But nothing, no one could compare with their beauty. Humans told them they were ethereal. If only humans knew how right they were.

Even there, in their cherished humans forms, they couldn't see each other. Jace could only pass by, and try to catch a glimpse of his well-named other half. Everyone who would look at him could see how his eyes seemed to shine with love and admiration when their paths crossed. But they could also see the haunted, sad, brokenhearted look they would turn into when they were apart. Helena was just the same, she just hid it better than him.

They had parts to play in everything. She was the light that would make the day and surround everyone with warmth. She was above everyone else, and people would have to bow to her awakening and setting to do their own. He was the source of protection against the cold and the dark. He accompanied everyone wherever they would go during the night to watch over them and warn them of danger. Not that anyone would know that.

But being apart from their better halves took a toll on them. Helena would get sad. That was the time when the Sun didn't shine as much, winter. Humans would get upset sometimes from the cold. How more selfish could they be ? Only thinking about themselves, while she was here, crying for her forbidden love. Sometimes, she would get angry with Fate. That were the days where clouds fought their way in the sky and prevented her light to pass through. Sometimes, when she was really pissed, she would lose all of her brightness, clouds would turn grey, and rain would start to pour.

Often, Jace would get depressed. Progressively, unlike Helena. He would feel sadder, and sadder until he was downright grief-stricken. When he was grieving, he would completely hide away, as did the Moon. The sadder he got, the less the Moon was seen. But when he was reminded of his task, he would start wandering again. The Moon would gradually come out. And the marvelous days where he could see her, that was the Full Moon.

Sometimes, they would drop their humans forms and be in their celestial shapes. Jace's form was a boy sitting on the Moon. Helena, being older, merged completely with the Sun. Jace lived on the Moon while Helena was the Sun. She would smile her brightest to Jace. Only him could understand why the Sun shone brighter, why the temperatures were higher. She was almost happy.

The Boy on the Blue Moon dreams of Sun. It was his only choice.

Jace and Helena had agreed to being the Moon and the Sun. They could have dropped their tasks and let it to someone else, but they didn't. They weren't and could never be truly, genuinely, completely happy. They missed the only thing, person, that could make them whole, better. Who was there to blame ? Fate ? Maybe. Themselves ? Possibly. Their destinies were too tangled now to be unraveled. They could have walked away, telling Fate they didn't accept their roles and the consequences anymore. But they were promised too much power. They were greedy for power. Wasn't it a common flaw ? When did ambition turn into greed ? Now, they lived unhappily, because they couldn't see, couldn't understand, that love was meant to be above ambition and power. They were too young, too dumb. Love was a story that couldn't compare. Of course, now, they had the power they wanted. Once upon a time, they were even worshiped, the Moon being a girl, Artemis, and then Diana, and the Sun a boy, Apollo. But now, they could roam almost freely. People looked at them, tried to understand them, were interested in them. But for what ? What were they really without their other halves ? Was their act good enough that it could fool everyone ? Could it fool themselves ? No, they weren't actors.

Fate wasn't cruel though. Fate was fair, honest, impartial. But not cruel. She let them see the other sometimes. But they had to hide themselves. Nobody but the skies could know about their meeting. They had accepted it. It was occasional, rare, but it was something. So Jace took it upon himself to hide them. He stood in front of Helena, his back to the Earth. They embraced each other. All people could see from the Earth, was the Moon covering the Sun. It lasted a couple of minutes on the Earth, but what felt like an eternity for the lovers. No one knew that what was called solar eclipse was a reunion of love. Who would understand, believe that ? They were happy. But no one but themselves could see that. People marveled at the black circle in the sky. Even them seemed to prefer when Jace and Helena were together. But they had to break apart. The Earth needed the Sun and the Moon, separately, to survive. This was a proof of their dedication to the Earth. But no one could understand that. How could they ? Were humans intelligent enough ? No, it wasn't a question of intelligence. Did they believe enough in love ? That was the real question. Would somebody, one day, believe in complete, blind, desperate love enough to pierce their secret ? To understand that what seemed like a natural event was a reunion of love. But, would somebody understand their choice of power and dedication over love ?

The separation after their reunion.... Neither Jace nor Helena could escape unharmed. They were finally happy, together, better, whole again. And they had to let go. That was the hardest thing they'd ever have to do. But they'd do it. They always did. They had to. For the greater good, they had been told. They had to believe this, or they would go insane, blaming themselves, Fate, the Earth, humans. They had to have Faith. Faith in Love. If they didn't let go of Faith, they could do anything. They had to have Faith in Fate, in their next reunion.

They were half of a whole, they were at their best when they were together. But maybe their best was too powerful, too out of control, too destructive to be kept as a unique being. They had to be apart. This was their curse. With too much power, came too little love.

Now all the Boy on the Blue Moon could do was dreaming of Sun again. And all the Sun could do was dreaming about the Moon.
